As an Accounting Specialist on the Finance Team, you will be responsible for providing assistance to the finance department in creating timely and accurate financial statements, administering billings/payables, budget management, and special financial projects. You will play a key role in the overall financial management of the company and must possess a strong understanding of core accounting principles and accrual-based accounting methodology. To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate critical thinking skills.

How you will make an impact as an Accounting Specialist

• Establishment and monitoring of company and departmental budgets
• Demonstrate critical thinking skills to identify exception reports when expenses materially differ from original projectionsType of expense and reason for variation

Ongoing evaluation of financial variances

• Creation, tracking, and proper amortization of accrued liabilities and assetsLeveraging spreadsheets, and accounting system journals (AP, AR, Cash Disbursements, Cash Receipts, General Ledger, etc.)
• Key contributor to the attainment of desired revenue growthRevenue projections based on sales activity, sale types, timing, etc.

• Development and continual evaluation of high-level key performance indicatorsCustomer acquisition cost, revenue channels, product split, etc.
• Assure all financial obligations are metInvoices received weekly and recurring expenses
• Assure integrity of all company financial records and activity
• Manage relationships with financial institutions and vendors as appropriate

What tasks will you execute as an Accounting Specialist

Commissions:

• Posting and reconciling carrier commission payments
• Processing of ongoing monthly audits of commissions received and research into discrepancies
• Working directly with insurance carriers on various commission related issues (i.e. commission statement downloads and formatting, payment issues, ACH setup, etc.)
• Updating commission related fields, policies, and schedules
• Updating and maintaining commission procedures
• Various administrative functions (i.e. scanning, saving, formatting) as needed
• Prepare journal entries
• Reconcile general ledger accounts
• Reconcile company credit card bills
• Manage accounts payable and maintain appropriate records
• Manage commission income from carriers
• Enter and track original/adjusted budget transactions and amounts
• Produce reports for executives regarding operating budget: Income statements – monthly/annual, Balance sheet – monthly/annual, Cash report – weekly and Ad Hoc – as required
• Maintain all accounting processes; establish additional processes as required
• Work with accounting firm to complete annual tax statements

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Minimum of 2 years of related accounting experience
• Attention to detail, exceptional critical thinking skills
• Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload
• Ability to work independently and within a team to accomplish department goals
• Strong communication skills – verbal, written, and listening.
• Advanced working knowledge of MS excel, word, outlook, databases, the Internet, etc.
• Experience with double entry accounting and use of accounting system(s). Sage Intacct is a plus
• Professional demeanor, positive attitude, and team player.
• Demonstrates performance and productivity goals during and after training
• A professionally mature individual with the ability to multi-task
• A customer advocate adept at navigating multiple computer applications who works efficiently while communicating with our clients
