Job Description

  • Reports to a Vice President or Chief Executive and the Chief Human Resources Officer. Beacon's Leadership Development Program will focus on building leadership talent through executive coaching and development to create a pipeline for leadership positions within the health system. Through a series of four rotations each lasting six months that align to Beacon's strategy while refining management and leadership skills through experiences such as mentorship, business acumen, and experiential learning. Responsibilities include completing specific work projects as assigned relative to Hospital-wide operations of specific department/individual needs and providing informational support for evaluation/resolution of regulations, procedures, or practices. Completes a comprehensive orientation to the operations of Beacon Health System in order to provide the participant with an opportunity to develop basic skills in hospital management and gain a better understanding of a healthcare system and its related entities.

Responsibilities

Completes a comprehensive orientation to the operations of Beacon Health System by:

  • Being exposed to all of the staff and operating functions on a rotational and project basis, as well as exposure to the regulatory agencies, community influences and other external concerns that have an impact on Hospital operations.
  • Developing and maintaining regular contact with department heads, Administration and Medical staff.
  • Attending a variety of Medical Staff, management and governing board functions and meetings.

Completes assigned/approved project-oriented work of increasing complexity and importance in accordance with mutually established and mutually agreed upon objectives and provides informational support for evaluation/resolution of regulations, procedures or practices by:

  • Gathering, investigating, researching, analyzing and/or studying activities impacting Hospital-wide or intra/interdepartmental operations.
  • Assists with investigating patient complaints with recommendations for resolution.
  • Assisting in the strategic planning of both the short- and long-range plans.
  • Assisting the Finance Department with various cost analyses and projections.
  • Developing and comparing internal products/services vs. national data by department. Providing recommendations to the appropriate Vice President regarding product/service improvement and addressing areas of concerns/opportunities.
  • Conducting external and in-house surveys for competitiveness and productivity measures.
  • Reviewing activities related to problem areas that may span organizational lines.
  • Responding to routine inquiries, both in person and in writing, as requested by Administration.
  • Assisting Medical Staff as appropriate.

Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:

  • Completing other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
  • Holding membership and participating in hospital administration related organizations.

Organizational Responsibilities

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Hospital Administration, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or a related field. Master's Degree is preferred or must be obtained within 3 years of hire. Knowledge of hospital operations that was obtained through an internship or previous administrative experience is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Demonstrates the analytical skills necessary to plan and develop activities impacting Hospital-wide or intra/interdepartmental operations, to work with special projects and to develop, prepare and analyze various reports, etc.
  • Demonstrates the interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact and deal with people in a variety of situations (which could include negotiating, persuading, answering complaints, etc.) related to the scope of the position.
  • Demonstrates the communication skills, both verbal and written, necessary to prepare reports, make effective recommendations and formal presentations.

Working Conditions

  • Works in a hospital office environment involving contact with Board members, Hospital department heads and managers, Medical staff, patients, families, consultants, other hospital and healthcare providers and community agencies.

Physical Demands

  • Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position.
