Job Description :

Bellevue Capital Partners, a diversified holding company and asset management firm specializing in publicly traded and non-traded REITs, as well as the management and operation of automotive, leisure and hospitality businesses is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to assist with providing a wide variety of tax, corporate transaction management, asset management and risk management services to the company, its operating businesses and its partners. The attorney will be involved in a wide range of individual and business transactional matters, tax matters, trust & estate planning, and investment reporting.

The Assistant General Counsel will be responsible for communicating regularly with the senior management team, partners of the company and their respective families and their professional advisors. This role requires an exceptional level of oral and written communication skills and involves a high level of interaction with the senior management of Bellevue Capital Partners, internal and external accountants, legal counsel and financial advisors. The Assistant General Counsel will report directly to the General Counsel and senior management.

Responsibilities of the Assistant General Counsel will include:

  • Providing day-to-day legal support and advice for Bellevue’s diverse operating business holdings (including real estate, automotive and hospitality businesses and a public charity/non-profit). Experience with businesses located qualified opportunity zones is preferred.
  • Understanding and participating in the development and administration of complex trust and estate planning vehicles.
  • Coordinating tax preparation and advice with outside tax preparers for individual, business and fiduciary federal and state income tax returns
  • Managing engagement of third-party professional advisors (including insurance advisors, bankers, financial advisors and outside counsel).
  • Following internal protocol for accounting, bookkeeping and bill payment and managing contracts and ensuring compliance.
  • Assisting General Counsel of an affiliated family office with day-to-day management and operation thereof.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong experience with the described duties and responsibilities.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school required.
  • Must be admitted to practice law in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut or New York. Admission in Rhode Island is preferred.
  • The ability to work on multiple tasks or projects simultaneously is fundamental to this role.
  • Must be comfortable taking ownership of issues, be highly responsive and driven to take action quickly.
  • Knowledge of federal tax laws, including income, gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer (GST) taxation.
  • Thorough knowledge of duties and best practices related to corporate governance, trust and estate administration, closely held entities, partnerships, private foundations and public charities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of colleagues, clients and external contacts.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Familiarity with administrative law or the ability to navigate municipal, state and federal permitting preferred.
