JOB SUMMARY

Apply innovative and creative ideas to automate and optimize oil and gas operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following represents the majority of the duties performed by the position, but is not meant to be all-inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary. Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory, environmental and safety rules and standards, as well as corporate policies.

  • Develop and test automation solutions for unconventional oil and gas wells / facilities.
  • Design control schemes and panels for facility and compressor installations. Includes incorporating pressure transmitters, flow meters and other instrumentation into control schemes to optimize oil and gas production.
  • Collaborate with Production and Facilities Departments to build tools to help streamline operations and remove manual data capture or process changes.
  • Troubleshoot equipment related to process control systems.
  • Complete technical specifications and cost evaluations for automation projects to optimize assets and drive down costs.
  • Build specifications and work with corporate purchasing to procure panels, controllers and other related materials.
  • Conduct training with field employees on new instrumentation, software and controls.
  • Travel to field during startups and training.
  • Assist with other projects as requested.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Automation and control experience for oil and gas operations.
  • Experience programming ABB Totalflow, Allen-Bradley, Beijer HMI and Red Lion equipment.
  • Understanding of Modbus, HART and other common industrial communication protocols.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate process control diagrams, instrument datasheets, cause / effect diagrams, and databases to develop system architecture of varied complexity with minimal assistance.
  • Understanding of artificial lift methods used on unconventional oil and gas sites including plunger lift, soap injection and well pad compression.
  • Exposure and interest in artificial lift automation projects.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science

Bachelor of Science or Graduate Level Degree - Electrical engineering, controls engineering, industrial engineering or other equivalent degree in related field.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

5+ Years - Minimum of five years of automation experience in the oil and gas industry.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMAND

Work is typically performed indoors in an office environment. Incumbents must be able to perform work which includes typing, sitting and standing. In the event that incumbent visits operations worksite, personal protection equipment, including head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, and flame resistant clothing is required. Safety rules including OSHA and DOT requirements are strictly enforced. Employees must be willing to travel and work extended hours on short notice. Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 lbs.

Travel Requirements

10% Travel may be required for required meetings or training.
