Job Description :

Job Title: Bookkeeper

Department: Accounting

Summary: Maintains account receivables and accounts payable as well as documenting the agency’s invoices and commissions and distributing them to the correct agent.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reconcile general and trust accounts daily
  • Record cash receipts and prepare bank deposits
  • Process credit payments to carriers via mail and ACH (phone, fax, email, on-line)
  • Review broker statements and follow up with agents on missing or outstanding accounts
  • Reconcile all bank and credit card statements on a monthly basis
  • Maintain and reconcile petty cash fund
  • Manage employee timesheets
  • Process biweekly payroll, deposit payroll taxes, and file payroll tax returns in a timely manner
  • Post direct bill commissions from various carriers on Applied TAM
  • Process accounts payable, agent commissions, and refunds
  • Record journal entries as needed for adjustments to general ledger accounts
  • Handle EDD and IRS correspondence
  • Maintain files
  • Other projects as assigned by President

Qualifications:

  • Highschool Diploma or GED
  • Must have at least 3 years of bookkeeping experience
  • Experienced with QuickBooks
  • Effectively manage time.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills, communication skills, and analytical skills are required
  • Experience working in a business professional environment.

Language Ability: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively explain Accounting questions, methods, and reconciliations.

Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, & Microsoft Excel. Have an average typing speed of 65 to 75 WPM.

Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
