QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ag experience required
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in agriculture or environmental field
  • Must have certification for Certified Crop Advisor, Certified Professional Agronomist, or ability to obtain CPAg within a year of hire
  • NRCS TSP or ability to get NRCS TSP certified
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Must work independently with the ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks at once, and incorporate new job duties as needs evolve
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member

SALARY RANGE: $60,000 – $80,000 per year

SUMMARY

Works with COO to develop project scopes and budgets. Also works with direct reports and existing, new, and potential clients. The Certified Professional Agronomist is a supervisory and leadership position responsible for aspects of regulatory compliance of Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) and agronomy, managing projects, quality control, and developing and supervising agronomy and regulatory staff. Areas of expertise include permits, monitoring, compliance, recordkeeping and reporting, inspections, agronomy, nutrient management plans and sampling for animal feeding operations such as dairy, beef and sheep feedlots, poultry farms, horse farms and ranches. Additional areas of consulting include, SPCC, composting, and solid waste regulations.

RESPONSIBLITIES

Thorough knowledge of Colorado’s animal feeding control regulations and similar regulations in other states. The Certified Professional Agronomist is responsible for the following tasks, including, but not limited to:

· Assist with environmental compliance assessments

· Represent client at Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and county health department inspections as needed

· Provide preparatory and corrective actions services to client as needed

· Develop annual reports of nutrient management practices for clients

· Attend educational activities to maintain current knowledge of nutrient management opportunities

· Recommend farming practices to enhance the overall nutrient management program

· Coordinate annual soil, manure, and wastewater sampling

· Record keeping and reporting on client activities per CAFO regulations

· Prepare crop recommendations and projects

· Provide agronomy consulting for clients – organic, pasture management, anaerobic digestate

· Examine cropping practices and land applications

· Manage a team in person and remotely to ensure program consistency

· Develop and oversee remote CAFO Compliance Team in a variety of different states.

· Prepare NPDES CAFO Discharge Permit applications and Nutrient Management Plan (NMP) writing Provide permitting and compliance services to solid waste and compost facilities

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, snow, rain) for extended periods of time and stand for long periods of time. This work requires standing on uneven terrain. Employees must also be able to lift and move a minimum of 30 lbs., sit, walk, talk, hear, and reach with hands or arms. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and other office equipment as required. The employee is also required to kneel, crouch, and bend. The employee is in a position that frequently communicates with other employees. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Employee will be operating a computer and other office machinery. Occasionally drive to city, county, state entities, and job sites.
