Position Description: Senior Civil Engineer

Required Experience: 10+ years

Required Education: Civil Engineering degree (ABET accredited), and Professional Engineer License

Summary

As a member of this team, you will be collaborating in a group of architects, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, structural engineers, designers, and drafters. You will be celebrated for your excellent communication skills and your ability to handle many projects and lots of moving parts

Qualifications

  • Federal agency experience desired.
  • Be self-motivated, able to perform and solve problems independently, and take the initiative to make sound decisions with minimal oversight.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
  • In-depth experience with industry software including: Civil 3D and Revit, WaterCAD, Autoturn, Flowmaster, UDsewer, HEC-RAZ, HEC 1&2, UDSWMM, CUHPE, RISA Suite
  • Strong experience with NPDES permitting, SWPP plans, erosion control BMPs
  • Strong knowledge of soils, geotechnical reports, and hydrology

Major Duties

  • Develop site civil construction documents for renovations, additions, and new construction at existing Veterans Affairs hospitals and other large facilities. Design work to include: cut/fill analysis, grading, drainage structures, retaining walls, and foundations.
  • Design of retaining walls and drainage structures including: stormwater systems, retention ponds, retention tanks, underground drainage piping, conveyance swales, treatment swales, culvert, headwalls
  • Land planning, cost estimates, bid evaluation, construction workeragement
  • Develop and/or review SWPP
  • Represent Valhalla on Client interviews.
  • Supervise and mentor junior in-house civil engineers; Stamp in-house construction drawings.
  • Manage outsourced civil engineering design work.
  • Strong working knowledge of building and material codes and how to effectively apply them.
  • Knowledge and experience with blast-resistant design preferred
  • Analyze preliminary scopes of work provided by the Client, and work with project managers to develop the scope of work.
  • Develop site survey and geotechnical scopes appropriate to support the design scope of work.
  • Completes thorough project documentation including narratives, reports, calculations, and drawings.
  • Provides quality-control check of work produced.
  • Coordinates civil design with structural design and the work of other disciplines.
  • Provides project construction administration support including shop drawing review, responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), and field observations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) required.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
