The communications specialist is a part-time lay employee

Three key areas of responsibility include:

  • Ensuring that communication to all the different entities of the church is made in a timely and appropriate fashion, encouraging people to participate in and support the church’s ministry and mission.
  • Helping the different programs and ministries of First Baptist develop the resources they need to fulfill their goals and to ensure that these programs and ministries are working together to fulfill the mission of the congregation.
  • Being available, upon request of the Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor and Office Administrator for such special needs and activities as are reasonable and required for the smooth functioning of the church. These special requests are scheduled through the Office Administrator.

Specific duties include, but not limited to:

Weekly:

  • Membership data: Input visitor data from Sunday communication cards into online database; maintain a current record of all members’ names, addresses, telephone numbers, birth dates, births, deaths, etc.; update our membership files and provide updated directories to the staff on a regular basis; provide staff and commissions with directory reports as requested.
  • Visitor Mailings: Print and mail a welcome letter from the pastor to first-time visitors.
  • Church Bulletins: Design the layout, proof the text, and print the weekly Sunday bulletin and inserts; gather information regarding church events and programs if not submitted to the office in a timely manner.
  • Files: Type up and file correspondence and records as required by the pastor or for general records maintenance/archiving.
  • Website: Update the church website with current information, events and schedules. Must have a workable knowledge of HTML coding and Adobe Dreamweaver.
  • Social Media Accounts: Post to the church’s Facebook and Twitter accounts about upcoming events and relevant information. Share photos of church events taken by members when applicable.
  • Mail Chimp E-Newsletter: Inquire with staff and commission chairs about upcoming events and share news to our subscribers via a weekly email. Design and proof emails in Mail Chimp.
  • Flyers: Collaborate with staff members to design and post flyers of upcoming events.
  • Sermon Podcasts: Upload sermon audio to Dropbox or Podomatic when requested.

Monthly:

  • Master Calendar: assist all pastoral and staff members with maintaining a master calendar of church events, including a calendar of facilities used by outside groups.
  • Tapestry Newsletter: Design and layout pages of the monthly 12-page Tapestry as well as write and edit articles for it, gather photos, print the newsletter, and deliver it to the post office for BULK mailing.

Annually/As Needed:

  • Annual Report: Gather and edit reports from all commissions and ministries; Design the layout and publish the yearly report before the Annual Meeting.
  • Memorial Service Programs: Collaborate with senior pastor and the family to design and layout program information for memorial services conducted in the church.
  • PR/Marketing: Negotiate advertisement contracts with newspapers, magazines, and other media; Design and submit ads to local newspapers; Work with advertising companies for our advertising and website needs; Submit press releases and event fact sheets for major church outreach events.
  • Assist transients, when available, by answering questions, praying, and making referrals to other FBCR church staff and service agencies.

Requirements:

  • Be familiar with First Baptist Church of Redlands Controversial Issues and the Church’s Ministry statement.
  • Have 2 to 3 years of work experience in a PR/Communications role.
  • Have a High School Diploma with college units earned in areas of PR, Communications or Journalism.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry 15 to 20 lbs. of weight.
  • Proficient in MS Software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher.
  • Proficient in Adobe CS6 software including Illustrator, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver
  • Intimate knowledge of the Internet, HTML coding, social networking, and research tools.
  • Knowledge and experience in live streaming.

Work Hours and Pay:

15 hours a week

Salary Range:

Depending on experience and education: $16.00 to $18.00 an hour

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
