Position: Construction Site Lead - Full-time non-exempt role

Summary: Habitat for Humanity of East Jefferson County (HFHEJC) seeks an individual to lead volunteer crews on the Habitat jobsites at the direction of Habitat for Humanity’s construction supervisor and management. Ensure volunteer safety, coordinate materials on site, coach volunteers on basic construction practices, plus provide support for the ordering of materials and supplies.

The position is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to continue to learn more about construction while helping address a critical issue, namely housing, that profoundly impacts human well-being. The successful candidate will find deep reservoirs of support along with a vibrant community in which to make their home.

Responsibilities:
Job Site Safety (30%):

  • · Be the job site safety leader; monitor the jobsite for safety hazards and pause or redirect work if necessary to maintain safety. Perform job hazard assessments on new tasks/processes to ensure the work is done safely
  • · Instruct volunteers on safe work habits, required Personal Protective Equipment and safe use of equipment
  • · Lead daily safety meetings including daily safety tool box talks applicable to the work being done (i.e., working at heights, working in the sun/heat)
  • · Perform routine inspections of personal protective equipment, tools and equipment (power tools, guarding, electrical cords)
  • · Tracks site incidents and/or near misses and helps implement mitigation solutions
  • · Monitor jobsite and practices for compliance with WA State Department of Labor & Industries Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction

Construction Leadership (35%):

  • · Lead volunteer crews performing construction activities including new construction, repair work and ground work/landscaping
  • · Ensure volunteer engagement and quality of work by assigning job site tasks and monitoring progress throughout the day. Provide guidance on work methods to volunteers to ensure the work is being done safely and correctly.
  • · Instruct volunteers on the use of equipment, PPE and construction methods within all safety standards as set by Habitat and the State
  • · Communicate with trades, subcontractors and building inspectors in the absence of the construction site supervisor

Coordination (35%)

  • · Plan volunteer work day tasks in coordination with the construction supervisor, ensuring that all scheduled volunteers and partners have an opportunity to contribute in a manner suiting their abilities and interests
  • · Assist with volunteer project preparation on the job-site each day
  • · Monitor the daily/weekly priority tasks to ensure they are completed and/or escalate to site supervisor if there are unplanned challenges preventing the task from being completed
  • · Ensure materials for the job site are identified, ordered and onsite when needed
  • · Move and stage construction materials from storage to jobsite

Qualifications and Skills

  • · A minimum of 1 to 2 years of construction experience and experience with construction tools and power equipment
  • · Ability to work Saturdays; typical work week is Tuesday through Saturday
  • · Ability to get certified in First Aid/CPR within three months of hire, and other training as required
  • · Support and endorse the Habitat for Humanity mission
  • · Coaching and/or teaching experience a plus, with excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • · Able to use hand and power tools and able to lift 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time
  • · Able to work at heights: climb ladders, work on ladders and scaffolding
  • · Able to use a computer/tablet within a Windows software environment
  • · Must have a valid driver’s license
  • · Physically able to work on outdoor construction sites in all kinds of weather
  • · Offer of employment contingent on successful completion of background check, including criminal records and sex offender registry

Salary and benefits:
Hiring Range $18.33 – 22.00 per hour, Full Range $18.33 – 25.66. Full-time non-exempt role which includes the below benefits:

  • Employer-paid medical, dental and vision for employees regularly working at least 30 hours per week, beginning first of the month after hire; in addition, currently providing employer contribution to Health Savings Account for eligible employees. Dependents may be covered at employee expense.
  • 401k program, currently contributing 4% of eligible wages for eligible employees
  • Employees working at least 20 hours per week receive 15 days’ vacation, 10 holidays, and two personal days (all accrued on a pro-rated monthly basis)
  • All employees receive 10 days sick time per year, accrued on a pro-rated monthly basis
