You will drive innovative ideas & thinking into Edwards cryo-pumping and cryocooling product offerings. The Cryogenics Technologist will have creativity, technical expertise and a passion for hands-on development and experimentation. The candidate will be responsible for the design, development and introduction of the next generation cryopumps, cryocoolers, cryogenic and vacuum products.

As part of the Core Technology group s/he will build and execute on a credible portfolio of ideas aligned with the business strategy that will transition to the New Product Introduction (NPI) group for subsequent launch. Additionally, the individual will serve as a design authority for cryopumps, refrigerators, compressors, sensors, and new technologies into development. While the individual will be expected to be self-directed and highly motivated, s/he will interface with all levels and functions in the organization, and must develop strong working relationships with cross-functional colleagues.

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU

Required Skills:

  • Minimum MS in one of Mechanical Engineering or Physics; PhD highly desirable
  • 7+ years experience with thermo-mechanical systems or components, ideally involving precisely toleranced parts and properties
  • 5+ years of advanced structural and/or fluids simulation in ANSYS or equivalent
  • Working familiarity with ProE / Solidworks Modeling for subassembly and system design
  • Experience with developing specifications and identifying critical parameters for core components such as seals, heat exchangers, motors, valves, oil separators, etc.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical assembly performance issues and failures.
  • Experience in Design for Six Sigma and/or comfort with statistical methods such as hypothesis testing, DOE, and SPC
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Intellectual curiosity for vacuum and/or refrigeration systems
  • Track record of having implemented new technology in products which were commercialized
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

Primary Responsibilities:

  • New technology development of cryogenic systems used in semiconductor and industrial applications.
  • Conduct feasibility studies into new and emerging technologies. Test new and modified designs.
  • Design/development, modification, and evaluation of primarily mechanical systems, equipment and packages
  • Design and execution of hands-on experiments in a laboratory setting utilizing state-of-the-art technologies and analytical tools.
  • Project leadership on company wide projects requiring cross organizational teams. Manages the validation of new technologies and their integration into the Edwards’ product portfolio. Works toward agreed-upon long range goals.
  • Applies advanced concepts and contributes to advancing company products and processes to achieve organizational objectives in a creative and effective manner.
  • Serves as a technical coach to the development team on technology solutions and design issues
