Seeking Full-Time and Part-Time Sales Associates for San Francisco Mercantile’s New Welcome Castro Store and Visitor Center

San Francisco Mercantile (1698 Haight St.) is expanding with a new retail gift shop and visitor center—Welcome Castro, opening in April. The new shop at 525 Castro St. will feature unique products and art designed primarily by LGBTQ+ artists and entrepreneurs. Our products celebrate the vibrant and diverse culture of California, San Francisco, the Castro, and the LGBTQ+ community.

We are seeking both full-time and part-time Sales Associates for our team. We’re looking specifically for Castro residents and members of the LGBTQ+ community to act as neighborhood ambassadors welcoming visitors and promoting the Castro as well as representing the products and artists in our shop.

Full-time Sales Associates will be scheduled for 32–40 hours per week. Part-time Associates will be scheduled for 20–24 hours per week. Both positions will be required to work weekdays and weekends as scheduled.

Sales Associate responsibilities:

• Greeting and engaging customers on the sales floor and phone
• Cash handling and operating an iPad register
• Organizing, restocking, and tidying up the store; at closing time, ensuring that the store is ready for the next business day
• Learning about all artists and companies represented in the store so as to provide exemplary customer service

Qualifications:

• At least one year of retail experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Familiarity with basic PC operations
• Being a reliable, organized, efficient, courteous, professional team player with a good sense of humor

Physical demands:

• Long periods of standing throughout shifts
• Bending, climbing, reaching, stooping, and lifting boxes up to 40 lbs.

Competitive hourly wage offered.
