Job Description

The Persolve Legal Group General Counsel role will provide legal services and strategies to the firm and its executive team. The main duties will be to ensure legal compliance regarding operational activities by the firm, handling legal activities on behalf of the organization and directing a team of attorneys working in all company locations and remote offices throughout the country.

Take your career to the next level as part of the Collection Advisory team where you will work across the firm to support business, control and legal partners regarding debt collection operations, strategies and digital initiatives. This role is part of the team which provides legal support on debt collection topics and operations. In this role you will be advising primarily on legal, regulatory and compliance matters related to federal and state debt collection laws, with a particular focus on operations and strategies in collections litigation and post judgment recovery actions.

Persolve is looking for an attorney who is collaborative, inquisitive, flexible, and exhibits grounded judgment. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in consumer finance and/or debt collection laws.

  • Strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing legal support and assistance to business clients, other legal teams and functional partners related to debt collection operations, strategies and digital initiatives.
  • Identify, analyze, escalate and help resolve legal and regulatory risks and concerns that may come to light.
  • Partner with the executive team to provide in-depth analyses of changes in law and assist in evaluations of possible impacts to business processes.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments in the area of debt collections and advise on new developments.
  • Support special projects, as needed.

Education/Licensing/Experience:

  • J.D. required. State Bar membership in Wisconsin is required. Other State Bar memberships is a bonus. Attorney candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.
  • All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience practicing law or managing a legal team in a collections litigation environment or in the consumer financial services arena.

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior in-house or litigation experience involving consumer finance, debt collection or debt buyer environments.
  • Prior regulatory or compliance experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of consumer finance laws impacting debt collections including FDCPA, TCPA, SCRA, UDMP and FCRA.
  • Technological mindset and a willingness to learn.

The location for this position is Brookfield, Wisconsin. This is a full-time, full benefit onsite position. Benefit package includes medical, vision and dental insurance, an aggressive PTO plan and a managed 401k. Occasional travel to the firm's headquarters may be required.
