This is an opportunity to work with a rising and dynamic non-profit on the west side. We are CHICAT…The Chicago Center for Arts and Technology. We help transform the lives of those we serve through our youth arts and adult workforce training programs. Created to primarily support the North Lawndale, Little Village, and Pilsen neighborhoods primarily, CHICAT educates, empowers, and elevates the talents of individuals. Born in 2017, CHICAT is based upon a successful model created in Pittsburgh by social entrepreneur and MacArthur Fellow, Bill Strickland. Strickland founded the Manchester Bidwell Corporation, a center dedicated to help adults-in-transition and youth in underserved communities realize their own genius through arts and technology. CHICAT is an integral part of Manchester Bidwell’s National Center for Arts and Technology (NCAT) network that is comprised of ten other centers like ours.

The Location

Located in the Illinois Medical District, just west of the Loop, CHICAT’s home is an award-winning contemporary redesign of a former industrial site. Conveniently located, our ultramodern offices, classrooms, and labs offer sweeping views of the Chicago skyline and state of the art technology. Our wide-open office design is ideal for concentration, collaboration and supports a culture where we work together to make good things happen for the community. We are minutes away from major area attractions, including the United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls, and close to Rush University Hospital and the University of Illinois at Chicago.

The Position

The Health Information Technology Instructor delivers critical medical technology learning skills to adult learners. This is an amazing opportunity for the selected candidate to engage motivated students to prepare them for in demand jobs in Medical Billing and Medical Coding field. As CHICAT’s capabilities to serve our constituents grows, we expect classes to grow and opportunities to abound.

The incumbent is responsible to facilitate a positive classroom and workplace culture to effectively engage students and co-workers. This means your presence and leadership skills foster a climate where all are accepted and encouraged to be and do their best. The incumbent should encourage a high level of participation to create a work and classroom environment conducive to exceptional learning. In addition to your classroom impact, this role also provides a unique opportunity to help effect positive change within the communities and people that we serve. What You'll Be Doing

• Plan, prepare and deliver instruction and facilitate the learning of students in certification

training programs.

• Develop, revise, and continually update curriculum and instructional material which are

competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with state

certifications.

• Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance, and grade records.

• Develop and deliver customized training for various clients as needed and maintain

involvement with business/industry/community through advisory committees, marketing

and recruitment efforts, and professional associations and organizations.

• Participate in professional development activities that provide for continually updated

knowledge and skills.

• Other duties as assigned.

Bring Your Best

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

• An AAPC or AHIMA certified member in good standing preferred.

• Must have at least five (5) years of medical coding experience

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required

• Certified Professional Coder-Instructor (CPC-I)/or obtained AAPC-Approved Instructor or

CPC-I Certification within first 6 months of employment

• Certified as Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). Equivalent in education and experience requirements also acceptable.

• Must possess a thorough understanding of and be proficient in preparing and presenting

instruction in the following subject areas: Medical Insurance Claims Processing, Electronic

Health Record Systems, Medical Administration and the most recent versions of Medical

Coding (HCPCS, ICD-10, CPT and Revenue) and Pharmacology.

• Prior experience teaching or training adults.

• Strong communications skills, including verbal, written and visual.

• Familiar with teaching a diverse population

• Bilingual a plus

• Understanding of the strengths and dynamics of the communities and the people we serve.

• Ability to work effectively on independent and collaborative levels.

• Strong follow-through capability and a demonstrated history of accuracy in completed work.

• Strong computing skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

• A high level of integrity and professional discretion. Demonstrated ability to foster a healthy and positive workplace culture.
