HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER

Champlain Orchards is one of the oldest, continuously-operating orchards in Vermont, and we take pride in growing premium fruit, being careful stewards of our land, and sustainably contributing to our beautiful state. We are seeking a Human Resources Manager who shares our values and who is an experienced and thoughtful professional.

Summary Job Description

Reporting directly to Champlain Orchards ownership/Senior Leadership, the Human Resources Manager will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the functions of human resource services, ensuring compliance with all applicable Local, State, and Federal Labor Laws.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains job descriptions and job requirements for all positions, scheduling and conducting job evaluations
  • Administers existing benefit programs, studies and assesses benefit needs and trends and recommends benefit programs to the owners
  • Completes human resource operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and following up on work results
  • Coaches and mentors managers, assists in disciplinary issues and problem-solving and recommends changes
  • Ensures confidentiality of all financial and personnel records
  • Prepares and maintains employee records with appropriate files and reports
  • Conducts new staff orientations, organizes training and completes new hire paperwork
  • Receives and approves employee time off requests, manages PTO, EST and unpaid time off; maintains a company-wide calendar of all staff time off
  • Recommends, develops, interprets and clarifies personnel procedures and policies
  • Oversees employee recruiting, testing and interviewing, and conducts exit interviews; provides advertisements when needed
  • Ensures the H2A program is handled properly and that all application deadlines are met, and proper records are kept
  • Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements; conducting investigations; maintaining records; and representing the organization at hearings
  • Oversees employee incentive & recognition program
  • Helps plan and organize management, department-wide and company-wide staff meetings
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of all employees
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • At least two years experience in human resource management
  • Excellent leadership ability
  • High level of analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills
  • Excellent time management and stress management abilities
  • Character qualities of being honest, trustworthy, respectful, and have sound work ethics
