Job Description
The position is the primary technical caretaker and contact point for the Library's servers, workstations, and related equipment and is responsible for their security and reliability. Key responsibilities include:
Primary
-
Administers library workstations and related equipment on all campuses and server infrastructure on main campus

Maintains and deploys Windows image
-
Provisions and maintains services in a virtual environment; troubleshoots technical issues

Tests and installs updates and patches
-
Maintains computer hardware
-
Configures computer software
-
Monitors logs
-
Improves and automates processes
-
Works with university information security team to prevent, identify, and resolve any security issues with library equipment

Serves on university systems administrators group that manages secure network and unit uses of network
Shared
-
Shares ILS systems administration duties with Information Systems Computer Analyst
-
Maintains staff level authorizations for all uses of the system (public catalog, cataloging, circulation, acquisitions)

Loads preconfigured files for library applications

Extracts MARC records for loading into cooperative shared system

Monitors weekly loads into ILS of current student, faculty information from Banner
-
Troubleshoots functional and technical problems

Shares maintenance of the library webpage in conformance with university web standards and as directed by library content providers with Information Systems Computer Analyst
Secondary

As necessary, assists with administration of access and authentication software
- As necessary, assists with administration of computer access and reservation control, public printing, and reboot to restore application software for the public computers

As necessary, assists with administration of the library makerspace and its technologies
-
As necessary, assists with maintenance of interlibrary loan web forms and installs interlibrary loan software updates as needed

Performs one-on-one staff training, as needed
-
Participates in professional activities including membership on library committees and task forces, membership in professional groups, and attends meetings

Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelors degree
-
Basic understanding of academic library role, functions, and resources
-
Basic understanding of data security issues, desktop computers, mobile technology, network infrastructure, cloud computing, programming, web applications
-
Ability to think critically, analyze problems, devise creative solutions
-
Good interpersonal, oral, written communication skills
-
Basic understanding of report logic
-
Based in Pocatello, comfortable with occasional travel to ISU Idaho Falls and ISU Meridian
Preferred Qualifications
-
Basic understanding of library standards, including MARC, NCIP, Dublin Core, Z39.50
-
Experience working with Oracle tables
-
Experience developing and supporting web based services
-
Experience working in a UNIX environment
-
CentOS, Debian, and Ubuntu preferred
-
Experience working with LAMP servers
-
Experience working with XML. XSL, CSS, JavaScript
-
Proficient in MS Office Access or SQL
