Job Description :

This newly created IT Technician position will perform a variety of duties. Under direct supervision, installs, maintains, tests, and repairs systems and networks. Utilizes basic technical knowledge to support IT initiatives and provide first-level technical information systems support to MPUA employees.
Resolves routine technical problems. Will also interface occasionally with members, elected government officials, and regulators for the Missouri Public Utility Alliance and its associated organizations. This position will also assist with Cyber Security programs for both the Alliance and its members.

Reports to Director - Information Technology & Building Systems.

Examples of Work Performed

1. Performs routine technological systems support, maintenance, and testing for proper upkeep of systems; troubleshoots and resolves general system hardware, software, and network failures and conflicts.

2. Ensure technical services for meeting rooms are met for internal and external groups.
3. Perform preventative maintenance on hardware systems to prevent errors.
4. Provide individual instruction and/or training to users on new or updated technologies.
5. Will assist with backing up and restoring data files and information.
6. Will utilize access control systems including security and entry devices, assigning user access rights.
7. Will assist with acquiring new equipment for network and end users.
8. Will communicate effectively in both oral and written form; explain technical concepts in non- technical terms to clients and staff.
9. Read, interpret, and apply technical instructions; keep current by reading, interpreting, and applying information on technological changes and updates; prepare clear and concise written communications; research technical manuals and guides to respond to user questions.

10. Should possess the ability to learn new software and hardware packages; adapt to changes in technology.

11. Position will work independently and as a team member; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all those contacted through the course of work.

12. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Competencies, and Abilities

1. Associates Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Business Administration required. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related area preferred. Technical system support experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Experience in Cyber Security a plus.

2. Knowledge of a wide range of computer systems software, applications, hardware, networking, and communications.

3. Valid state driver’s license.
4. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, capable of clearly expressing concepts in an informative and persuasive manner to a variety of audiences in reports, letters, brochures, news releases, memorandum, announcements, etc.

5. Basic analytical and mathematical skills.
6. May require occasional unscheduled overnight work outside of the MPUA office. May also require travel to member sites for support needs.

7. Ability to work independently, set priorities, and manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
