A Portfolio Owner delivers amazing products that support a business strategy and increases company value. The Portfolio Owner is responsible for setting, prioritizing, and evaluating functionality of multiple products, including competitor analysis. The Portfolio Owner understands the product goals of the business unit they support and represents business goals on the portfolio team by developing strong relationships within the business.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a product expert, product evangelist and the voice of the customer
  • Account for stakeholder goals
  • Maximize Product Business Value
  • Turn product vision into an actionable backlog
  • Develop business expertise
  • Organize product releases
  • Facilitate overall value of work done
  • Review work products and provide feedback
  • Assist business owner with defining product strategy roadmap
  • Craft User Stories
  • Management of the Product Backlog including:
  • Maintain a transparent, clear, backlog (including acceptance criteria)
  • Groom backlog
  • Clearly expressing Product Backlog items to the development team
  • Ordering and prioritizing the items in the Product Backlog to best achieve Product goals and business value
  • Optimizing the value of the work the Development Team performs
  • Ensuring the Development Team understands items in the Product Backlog to the level needed
  • Works with the customer to clarify and convey the customer needs
  • Accountable for Product Success
  • Acts as primary voice representing the business or user community
  • Evaluate Product progress at each iteration
  • On a Scrum Team:
  • Attend Sprint Planning, Daily Stand Ups, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective ceremonies
  • Run the Backlog Refinement Ceremony
  • On a KanBan Team:
  • Attend the Flow-Based Planning meeting
  • Run the Backlog Refinement meeting
  • Work with technology and integration partners to define integration processes and requirements
  • Assist in product testing, analysis, and diagnosis

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner or similar role
  • Experience in product lifecycle management
  • Scrum/Agile experience, certifications highly preferred but not required
  • Background in software development and program management is preferred
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Familiarity with Agile framework
  • Organizational and leadership abilities
  • Problem solving/analytical skills to resolve issues and be able to adapt quickly to changes
  • Ability to work with a customer to develop ways to improve products through functionality that will improve product business value
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Detail Oriented
  • Ability to gain technical product knowledge and specific domain expertise
  • Understanding of information architecture
  • 5+ years' experience in software analysis or development
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Ability to understand and utilize Agile metrics to improve the throughput for the team
