LOAN SERVICING SPECIALIST
Overview:
The Loan Servicing Specialist plays a pivotal role in the booking and maintenance of all loans at BankSouth and ensures that all loan files are set up properly in our respective systems. The Loan Servicing Specialist routinely interacts with individuals across the organization including Lending Assistants, Relationship Managers, and Loan Processors. This position is also responsible for quality assurance and serves as a point-of-contact for internal customers. This position requires intermediate to advanced experience in loan servicing. The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more functional loan servicing areas including participations, escrows, and bookings.
Responsibilities:
- Compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures as they apply to this position
- Answers questions for internal and external customers about their loans, processing, and documentation
- Assist with the transaction processing for the BSM warehouse line
- Process loan-related invoices as needed
- Review non-accrual reports on a weekly basis to make any necessary cash basis adjustments
- Review loan payments to verify accurate posting
- Monitor loan statements and insert disclosures into credit line statements
- Ensure that LIP (loans in process) entries are cleared timely
- Process direct credit disputes through EOSCAR
- Maintain SBA loans on the core system and complete SBA reporting as required
- Update loan rates in the core system timely and as required
- Perform all aspects of participation processing
- Process construction draws
- Perform all aspects of escrow processing to include payments, analysis, etc.
- Prepare purchase advices for BSM purchased loans
- Book all new, renewed, and modified loans on core processing system
- Proof the setup of new and renewed loan files to ensure loans are set up properly on the loan servicing system; perform loan maintenance as requested; process entries to loan servicing systems needed to update or correct loan information
- All other duties as assigned by the Loan Servicing Lead or senior management
Key Results Areas:
- Accurate and timely boarding of loans to the bank’s core processing system
- Accurate and timely proofing of loans once they are boarded to the core processing system
- Accurate and timely processing of payments and payoffs
- Accurate and timely clearing and reconciling of the loan operation’s settlement accounts
Experience & Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, a two-year degree is preferred. Experience in loan operations, loan processing, use of loan servicing data processing systems as well as participations, escrows, and bookings is strongly preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Etc.) is essential to success in this position.
- Interpersonal Skills that invoke a team approach and cooperative attitude
- A high level of attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced knowledge of core operating systems
- Advanced knowledge of BakerHill, Silverlake, and all other job-specific software
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment with frequent changes in duties and processes
- Maintain a high level of client confidentiality
- Committed to learning the “why” behind processes for knowledge, improved processes, and better communication with partners
- Strong oral and written communication skills
Other Requirements:
Satisfactorily complete all required compliance training and compliance with all laws and regulations that apply based on the scope of this position.

Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving and obtaining information, as well as advising or referring, which commonly require shorter discussions.
Physical Requirements:
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in an emergency. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
Working Conditions:
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work environment with moderate noise.

Must be able to perform job functions independently and with limited supervision. Must work effectively as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be able to perform basic financial calculations with accuracy. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under stress of deadline, requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on confidential matters.
