Position Title: Clinical Services Provider

Job Summary: Provide direct behavioral health services to students in collaboration with school staff and parents/caregivers.

Representative Duties: (Incumbents may perform any combination of the essential functions shown below. The position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this classification, but it is intended to accurately reflect the principle job elements)

  • Provides initial assessment, including diagnoses and treatment plan, for assigned students
  • Conducts interviews with students, families, and groups in the school setting to develop client centered service plans. Provide individual and/or group rehabilitation and/or therapy services to address emotional, behavioral or social problems.
  • Works with clients’ families to secure their cooperation in treatment programs.
  • Consult with children, parents and teachers when there is a crisis intervention need.
  • Collaborate with Student Study Team members to identify strengths and weaknesses and make recommendations.
  • Serve as liaison between schools, community mental health professionals, juvenile agencies, and social service and community resources.
  • Complete necessary forms and documentation for Medi-Cal billing purposes.
  • Attend training provided by Behavioral Health, Lake County Office of Education and the California Department of Education.
  • Work with Lake County Behavioral Health Services.
  • Perform related duties, as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Principles, techniques and trends in counseling, psychotherapy, and various treatment modalities.
  • The concepts of “recovery” and “resiliency” and ability to translate these concepts into practice.
  • Biological, behavioral and environmental aspects of emotional disturbances, mental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and substance abuse and methods used for problem analysis and resolution.
  • Federal and State regulations regarding Medi-Cal billing and other assigned duties.
  • Community agencies and resources.
  • Record-keeping techniques.
  • Principles of providing work direction and guidance to assigned personnel.
  • Technical aspects of field of specialty.
  • Cultural differences in student population.

Ability to:

  • Perform a variety of supportive/rehabilitative services.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative, constructive relationships with families of clients, members of other professional disciplines, partner agencies, and other staff.
  • Work with partner agencies, family members and clients in developing innovative strategies to meet client needs.
  • Develop clear and comprehensive case records and documentation.
  • Prepare care plans and a variety of reports.
  • Organize and manage a caseload.
  • Understand rehabilitation specialist role and deal with clients in a variety of circumstances and settings accordance with professional standards and ethics.
  • Conceptualize and prioritize the problems of individuals with mental illness and their families, determining their needs for services and support.
  • Recognize potential crises and deliver crisis intervention services.
  • Handle stress and unstable client behavior, concerns of family members and partner agencies.
  • Effectively represent the Mental Health Department in contacts with clients, the public, community organizations, other County staff, and other government agencies.
  • Regularly work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
  • Constantly demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients.

Education and Experience:

Education: Hold at least a Master’s Degree in one of the related fields is required (marriage and family therapy or social work) from an accredited institution of higher education.

Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in clinical supervision of specialists and clinical staff.

Licenses and Other Requirements:

  • Current California License as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage Family Therapist, or Licensed Professional Counselor issued by the California State Board of Behavior Science Examiners.
  • Possess a valid California driver's license and the availability of an automobile with the liability coverage required by the LCOE policy.
  • Possess cleared current Tuberculosis (TB) Screening/Certification in accordance with California Education Code.
  • Cleared background check through California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal
  • Bureau of Investigation (FBI) prior to starting employment with the agency. The agency also receives subsequent arrest information from DOJ if any penal code infractions occur.

Salary: Appropriate placement on Classified Support Staff Salary Schedule, Range 18. $99,309.60 - $111,814.56 per year.

$10,000 Sign on Bonus.

220 Service Days.

Detailed salary schedules can be found on the Lake County Office of Education Website (www.lakecoe.org) under Human Resources. This classification is FLSA (Federal Labor Standards Act): Non-Exempt.

  • Physical stamina sufficient to sit for prolonged periods of time. (e)
  • Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions. (e)
