The candidate will join a fast-growing team of chemists, biochemists, and engineers to develop novel point of care tests (POCT) and rapid diagnostic and sensing solutions for microbiological agents. The ideal candidate as a microfluidic and microfabrication engineer will assist the product development and commercialization of several innovative detection platforms established and centered on using Lab-on-Chip technologies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Perform research to identify emerging trends and technologies for rapid and automated lab-on-chip detection and monitoring of cellular and macromolecular targets.
2. Research, design, prototype, evaluate and develop devices for processing and testing biologics and clinical samples; Test and validate established bioanalytical assays on device prototypes and make modification and improvement to meet target product profile and intended end use.
3. Apply basic engineering principles and concepts to design and develop novel technologies in next generation size-exclusive separation and microfiltering of biological molecules and particles.
4. Develop microfluidic and nanofluidic based rapid diagnostic assays, and field-deployable sensing and monitoring platforms.
5. Integrate microfluidics with optics for applications in automated imaging and fast throughput sample analysis.
6. Plan and conduct product manufacturing with external OEMs.
Required Key Competencies:
1. Master or PhD degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical, Materials Science or related technical field
2. Expertise in photolithography, dry/wet etch processing, and microfluidics.
3. Familiarity with nanofluidics, optical microscopy, and microelectronics fabrication preferred.
4. Experience in research related to machine learning, biotechnology, microbiology, biosensing, test and evaluation, medical device design control and development, and design verification and validation, or device automation is a plus.
5. Be able to work independently and communicate efficiently both internally in the team and externally with collaborators and manufactures.
6. Maintain high attention to detail, demonstrate strong creativity and problem-solving skills to address technical issues and improve product performance.
