Mining Engineer

Bronco Utah Operations is an underground mine that extracts high BTU, low sulfur, bituminous coal by way of continuous miners and is located in central eastern Utah near the town of Emery.

Position Summary

The Mining Engineer will work under the direction of the Engineering Manager or designee to complete technical tasks. They will perform routine, entry-level engineering tasks under the direct supervision of a senior engineer with the goal of developing more advanced applied engineering skills.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Provides general, entry-level support to the engineering department.
• Verifies and tests assigned metrics on projects.
• Identifies potential areas of process and product improvement; recommends and assists with development of appropriate solutions.
• Identifies and reports problems with specific processes or products to senior engineers.
• Ensures compliance with applicable company and client quality requirements in all assigned programs, functions, products, and areas most notably with the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to comprehend and follow directions.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Access and/or other query, database-related software.
• Intermediate proficiency in Computer aided design CAD software — Autodesk AutoCAD, Carlson SurvCADD, or related software.
• Capable of working autonomously or with team members to complete projects in a professional manner.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree (BS or BA) in Mining, Civil, or Industrial Engineering.
• Internship in related field highly desired.

Preferred Qualifications:

• BS in Mining Engineering or higher from an EAC/ABET or CEAB accredited engineering program. A foreign degree in an engineering program deemed equivalent by an NCEES Credentials Evaluation.
• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.
• Ability to don personal protective equipment such as safety-toed boots, hard hat, mine belt, and safety glasses.
• Ability to stand and walk for short durations, including walking up and down stairs and across uneven surfaces.
• Ability to kneel, crawl, stoop, and squat, occasionally in confined spaces.
• Comfortable in an underground mining setting

This role is generally 70% office environment and 30% field environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
