Job Description Summary
CPS is hiring physician assistants (PA) and/or nurse practitioners (NP) for our Maine locations in Augusta and Auburn. The PA/NP works with CPS’ site Medical Director and/or staff physician in the day-to-day care and management of detainees.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluate and treat sick call requests and prescribe medications per guidelines set forth by the
State Board of Medicine [and/or State Board of Nursing] following the CPS formulary and
approval by the PA/NP’s primary supervisor.
Healthcare services provided fall within the scope of PA/NP practice guidelines and are in accordance with CPS policies and procedures, OSHA regulations and the ACA/NCCHC standards.
· Report and provide care to detainees.
· Collect data and perform History and Physicals.
· Initiate laboratory/diagnostic studies deemed appropriate to manage detainees’ care.
· Follow up abnormal examination findings, laboratory/radiological studies, and record this information in the patient’s chart.
· Initiate emergency management for situations such as cardiac arrest, injuries, sutures, burn treatment, hemorrhage, and other emergencies within scope of the PA/NP practice and personnel training.
· Perform clinical procedures when indicated which may include but are not limited to: venipunctures, intradermal tests, EKG and interpretations, care and suturing of minor lacerations, casting and splinting, performing pap smear and vaginal cultures, removal of sutures and foreign bodies [wooden splinters, etc.] aseptic dressings, ear lavage techniques, biopsies, incisions and drainage and any other procedure deemed appropriate by the supervisory physician and in accordance with state laws.
· Refer residents whose present clinical complications that are outside the PA/NP scope of practice to CPS Site Medical Director and/or supervising physician.
· Act as a resource for crisis intervention, preventive health maintenance strategies and other patient education endeavors.
· Assist the Quality Improvement Committee in obtaining or maintaining accreditation at facility.
· Assist with Emergency Staff coverage as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Physician Assistant
· Graduate of NCCPA accredited physician assistant program.
· Currently National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants [NCCPA]
· Certification.
· Current Maine Professional Licensure.
· Current Maine Controlled Substance Registration.
· Current DEA Controlled Substance Registration.
· Current CPR certification.
Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
· Current Maine Professional Licensure.
· Current Maine Controlled Substance Registration.
· Current DEA Controlled Substance Registration.
· Current CPR certification.
