  • Job Title: Occupational Therapist
  • Department: Orthopaedics East Therapy
  • Reports To: Physical Therapy Manager
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-5. May be adjusted to meet patient needs.

Summary: Plans and administers medically prescribed occupational therapy treatment for patients suffering from injuries, or muscle, nerve, joint and bone diseases, to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability by performing the following duties.

This position requires compliance with OrthoEast’s compliance standards, including its Code of Conduct, Compliance Program, and policies and procedures. Such compliance will be an element required as part of the Occupational Therapist’s job duties, and considered during performance evaluations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following.

  • Reviews Physician's referral (prescription) and patient's condition and medical records to determine occupational therapy treatment required.
  • Provides consultation in areas such as environmental design, adaptive equipment, proper positioning of patients to prevent contractures and splinting.
  • Maintains timely and accurate patient records and reports.
  • Designs and administers treatment programs to increase patients' levels of functioning. Uses therapeutic exercises and activities to improve or maintain strength, range of motion, and fine-motor coordination. Instructs patients in adapted techniques and the use of adaptive equipment for meal preparation, home management, dressing, feeding, and other self-care skills.
  • Designs and fabricates splints/orthotics as specified by doctors' prescriptions; designs and/or fabricates slings and adaptive equipment to meet the needs of patients and/or their families.
  • Provides prevention therapy to maintain functional skills; instructs patients in energy conservation, joint protection, safety techniques for sensory loss, and transferring and visual field deficits; instructs patients' families in personal care for patients.
  • Designs home programs and instructs patients or families in carrying out such programs.
  • Orients, instructs, and directs work activities of assistants, aides, and students.
  • Dictates notes of treatment for patient files/completes medical records.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience :

  • Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate degree from an accredited institution.
  • N. C. License required.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
  • Experience in maintaining confidentiality in dealing with sensitive issues.
  • Ability to deal with frequent change, delays, and/or unexpected events.
  • Be willing to work in a team environment and contribute to building a positive team spirit.
  • Good communication skills required in dealing with diverse patient population, often concerning stressful and/or emotional situations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
