FINANCIAL SERVICES: BOOKKEEPER
FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
LAKELAND, FLORIDA
Part Time, 20-25 hrs
General Qualifications:
The Bookkeeper shall be grounded in basic Christian doctrine, having and professing faith in Jesus Christ. He/she shall agree to uphold the Staff Social Covenant and Church Personnel Policies. He/she must have a thorough understanding of the mission of the church and the servant role of church staff persons, and shall demonstrate managerial skills necessary to oversee and encourage lay volunteers.
Occupational Summary:
The Bookkeeper provides support in all areas of general ledger maintenance and church related banking including deposits, transfers, and bank reconciliations.
Essential Job Functions:
· Oversee all bank transactions: deposits, transfers between accounts, wire transfers.
· Reconcile all bank statements working with Church Treasurer
· Enter data and maintain all general ledger activity
· Work with head usher coordinating Sunday offering collections
· Maintain and control office safe
· Reconcile and replenish petty cash on a quarterly basis (at minimum)
· Prepare and post monthly journal entries
· Analyze accounts monthly or as needed
· Maintain and ensure balance sheet is in balance
· Advises Church Administrator of daily bank balance
· Trained back up to Accounts Payables Specialist and duties surrounding that position (see job description)
· Other duties as assigned by Church Administrator or pastoral team
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Education:
· Associate's degree or equivalent accounting experience
Preferred Experience
· Bookkeeping, 2 years
Required Training:
· Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook
· Strong skills in using spreadsheets and databases
· Knowledge and experience with automated payables system is preferred
Skills:
· Self motivated team player with a positive can do attitude
· Ability to multi-task with low level of frustration with interruptions and last minute changes
· Accurate with strong attention to details
· Excellent prioritization, organizational and problem solving skills
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Dependable and able to work with minimal supervision
