Description
Cerebrovascular Position: Under the direction of the Chief Advanced Practice Provider and the Neurosurgery Attendings, the hired candidate will join a team of Advanced Practice Providers in the Department of Neurosurgery at Stony Brook Medicine. The need is for a dynamic and hard-working individual to primarily cover the cerebrovascular division. Orientation and training is provided to all new staff members regardless of experience. Responsibilities include emergency and ongoing care for neurovascular patients requiring surgical and endovascular intervention, including various types of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. The provider will primarily see patients in the emergency department, inpatient units and the Neurocritical Care Unit. Additionally, outpatient services are provided to patients on site. Stony Brook is a regional Comprehensive Stroke Center, provider of a Mobile Stroke Unit, and Level 1 Trauma Center. Responsibilities also include interacting and educating patients and families, performing a comprehensive physical exam on patients, diagnosing, ordering/interpreting laboratory and radiological exams while collaborating with the attending physician.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Physician Assistant: Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program. NYS Physician Assistant license. NCCPA certified or must have in possession by start date. NIHSS, BLS and ACLS certifications required upon hire. Minimum one-year experience as a Physician Assistant.

Nurse Practitioner: Current NYS RN licensure. Master's degree in Nursing. NYS certification or eligible as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Two years of nursing experience in neurosurgery, neurology, general surgery, med-surg, emergency medicine or intensive care. NIHSS, BLS and ACLS certifications required upon hire. Minimum one-year experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in stroke neurology, neurosurgery or cerebrovascular neurosurgery, and emergency or intensive care experience desirable. Experience performing procedures including lumbar puncture, ventriculostomy, and VPS taps.
