PURPOSE OF POSITION: Giant Step Preschool & Child Care Center’s mission is to provide a safe and caring learning environment for children while acknowledging parents’ role in their development. We are seeking a new program Director who will replace the current Director when she retires. The Director oversees the overall operation of the program and is the lead teacher for the preschool program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Director is responsible for staffing the program, enrolling children and maintain records, invoicing families, overseeing finances, planning for food program and purchasing food, grant writing and reporting, and planning, coordinating and teaching for the preschool program, as well as other duties.

REQUIRED SKILLS: A background in early childhood and teaching, working with families, exceptional verbal, written, and people skills. Demonstrates organizational, problem solving and negotiation skills. Capable of working with a diverse population, expressing global empathy and can adapt to unique situations. Must have knowledge of technology (Power Point, Excel, Word, use of computer).

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE High School diploma required with additional educational preparation strongly preferred. Prefer the applicant has an Early Education background.

Posses or being willing to achieve one or more of the following:

· Must be Director qualified or be willing to work toward being Director qualified

· Posses a current professional teaching license with the Colorado Department of Education with an endorsement for early childhood education or elementary education

· Possess a current Early Childhood Professional Credential Level II or higher in Version 3.0

· Current Child Development Associate (CDA)credential and meet the required hours of experience

The current Director is willing to train and support this position to obtain required education/experience needed.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: _

1. Responsible for entire operation of preschool and child care program.

2. Completes orientations with families regarding the program and enrolls children in preschool

3. Respects and protects the confidentiality of family members at all times and in all circumstances.

6. Establishes job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level of competency.

7. Ensures that documentation and data collection is maintained and is easily accessible.

8. Hires and oversees all staff members

9. Oversees training and professional development of all staff members

10. Is the lead teacher for the preschool class

11. Facilitates the Food program for the Center, menu planning and purchase all supplies and food

12. Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for families and meets all licensing and health department requirements

13. Is responsible for the oversite of maintenance on the Center

14. Serves as on-site resource for families and children.

15. Facilitates fundraising and grant writing as needed.

16. Reporting to the State of Colorado and grants awarded

16. Perform other duties as assigned.

COMPLIANCE: Keeps excellent records of all parent involvement activities, reports, surveys, funding, annual program evaluations, and communications to parents; ensures compliance of the Center involvement program with all state and federal guidelines and licensing.

SKILLS IN:

1. Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.

2. Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines.

3. Use of office machines such as computer, printer, scanner, projector, etc., will be required.

4. Teaching in a classroom setting

5. Communication with parents, stakeholders and funders

6. Working with children 0-5 years of age

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Ability to:

1. Understand and conduct written and oral instructions.

2. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others including other organizations.

5. Deal with problems involving man variables in nonstandard situations.

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; move around the office or work area and is able to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a normal child care Center and classroom environment for the most part. There may be exceptions.

Working time may require working on occasional Fridays with normal Center hours being Monday through Thursday 6:30 am – 5:30 pm.

Wage based on experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $37,221.38 - $44,825.74 per year
