Engineering Position
A converter of papers and films located in the suburbs northeast of Boston is looking for a motivated individual, with a mechanical engineering background, to maintain and improve manufacturing processes and equipment. Experience in the paper, film, printing or converting industries a plus.
Primary Responsibilities of Process/Mechanical Engineer
This position will provide support for manufacturing operations. This person will apply technical knowledge to engineer, design, modify, test, and maintain operational machinery and facility equipment. In addition, this person will assist in pushing the manufacturing goals for continuous improvement.
Duties
Review project instructions and blueprints to determine specifications, procedures, and objectives for associated equipment.
Capacity to test equipment and seek out the nature of a problem with a possible solution.
Ability to work from technical drawings, understand written and oral instructions, and utilize computer aided design techniques to create design layouts of sub-assemblies, parts, and devices.
Develop or recommend new or modified components or assemblies for equipment in the web converting industry. This responsibility will include power transmission systems and web handling equipment.
Set up and conduct tests under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance, or other factors such as data gathering for process development, standardization, and quality control.
Estimate labor and equipment costs and work with outside vendors to source, specify, and integrate equipment.
Coordinate and expedite assigned engineering projects through engineering design, installation, and commissioning. Inclusive to these responsibilities are facility improvement projects with HVAC upgrades, improving material handling equipment, facility layouts, as well as process and equipment enhancements for increased manufacturing productivity.
Responsibilities may include other technical assignments or duties as directed.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
Proficiency in computer aided design using AutoCAD.
Ability to prepare detailed technical drawings of parts or assemblies for fabrication, manufacturing, and repairs.
To take direction from the Engineering Department, manage projects with the maintenance staff, and work with manufacturing to resolve production issues.
Skilled with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Strong communication skills.
