Summary of Position Mission
The Product Development Engineer is the driving force for the development of new products at Century Arms. This position reports to the Sr Product Engineering Manager and working throughout the organization, will be responsible for the timely design, development, and correct configuration of Century’s products in alignment with the product roadmap to support the business plans of the company. The Senior Product Development Engineer is also responsible for the creation and maintenance of product drawings and test plans. This position will also be responsible for product continuous improvement programs and may work directly with suppliers to ensure their capabilities and capacities support Century’s growth plans.
Responsibilities
Product Engineering

  • Develop new products utilizing a fast-paced product development and product innovation system to bring forth groundbreaking, innovative products or product characteristics in a timely manner.
  • Lead cross-functional teams comprised of members from Engineering, Marketing, Finance, Operations, Quality etc. in the development of new products, providing project guidance and leadership to ensure products meet the defined product requirements and launch objectives.
  • Work closely with Marketing and other teams to define product specifications, create test plans and manufacturing work instructions for new products.
  • Create the technical data packages including drawings, BOMs, and test plans for new products and new configurations of existing products, while meeting company strategic timelines.
  • Be the primary resource for continuous improvement of existing products for cost reduction, reliability improvement, or customer engineered specials.
  • Develop products that utilize Design-For-Manufacture principles to ensure best-in-class performance for cost, quality, reliability and safety.
  • During product development phases lead the effort in concert with Supply Chain to select suppliers and develop product cost models.
  • Create Protypes for verification of Technical Data Package
  • Liaise with Marketing and Sales to support end-user trials and incorporate essential feedback into new product designs.
  • Interact with suppliers to establish new product capabilities and capacities with a focus on reducing costs, improving quality, and ensuring a reliable supply.
  • Work closely with the Operations team to ensure smooth hand-off as the products move from development to production.
  • Provide support to all concerned parties including Operations and Customer Service during the development of new products.

Qualifications & Knowledge Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years’ experience working in a product development environment or product management group required.
  • Must have strong interpersonal / relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of firearms manufacturing and metals machining.
  • Proficiency in Solid Works or equivalent solid modeling software.
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Must be familiar with ISO processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles.
  • Capability to develop a project plan and to manage a project to completion.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office tools required.
  • Experience in the use of ERP programs i.e. SolarSoft, a plus.
  • Highly motivated problem solver with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Travel as required, and may include travel to overseas locations.
