This is an exciting position at Groove Productions where no two days are alike. Events vary from weekend to weekend in size and scope; however, they all include some fundamental areas such as: audio, staging, lighting, trucking, and road case management, just to name a few!
We're looking for a Production Team Member/Assistant Event Director who has the same passion for dance as we do, along with a sharp sense of organization, planning, and a knack for working with their hands. Our production department is the essence of Groove Productions. The ideal candidate will have a creative mindset for designing our events and making the best show in the dance competition industry, for all the dancers who grace our stage. This position is for a full-time Production Team Member, as well as an on-site Assistant Event Director. This will include office and warehouse responsibilities, as well as, on-site event management, which encompasses being on tour, working with crew members, and client relations.

Office/Warehouse Job Brief:
The Production Team Member will work closely with the entire production team on developing and implementing the back-end production for all events. The ideal candidate for this position would be proficient and comfortable with all aspects of staging / rigging / lighting and electrical components of show production as well as all aspects of tour fleet managment. They would be handy, comfortable using tools & be able to come up with creative solutions. They would have organizational skills, coupled with an eye for detail as well as a knack for problem-solving. Additionally, the ideal candidate must have the ability to manually move, lift, build & repair production equipment on a regular basis as the production team is responsible for successful events. These responsibilities include management of our trucking fleet and related aspects of compliance and personell, as well as the overall daily operations of each set of tour and other equipment.

Responsibilities of the office/warehouse position include:

  • Warehouse maintenance, including but not limited to inventory, restocking, organizing, repair and/or replace damaged equipment.
  • Researching and implementing new organizational systems for our trucking fleet, compliance, maintenance and more to make workflow more efficient.
  • Researching, advancing, and implementing new equipment and ways to better our trucking operations and show production.
  • Ensure that trucks are packed according to tour schedule.
  • Understans tat this is not a Mondaythrough Friday 9am-5pm environment. Must ensure presence is known, seen and impactful. Evenings and weekends shoud be anticipated.
  • Responsible for creating routes for our fleet of trucks, as well as maintaining routing, truck maintainance, truck driver compliance, truck team communications, etc.
  • Work with third party vendors on new equipment orders or rentals.
  • Responsible for overseeing projects to completion.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the team maintains our inventory in the highest manner possible, issues are reported immediately and followed through until resolution is complete.
  • Ability to be behind the wheel of a box truck for maintenance, truck packing, and shows (we are willing to train).
  • All other duties as assigned or designated.

On-the-Road Job Brief:

The specific functions of an Assistant Director’s role while on-the-road will cover a wide scope of activities. The this is because all events are not and will never be the same. During the regional, national, and convention seasons you will be scheduled to work pre-determined events. During weekends off of the above-mentioned season, you will be on-call to assist Groove Crew and other Executive Team Members as needed.

Responsibilities of the on-the-road position include but are not limited to:

  • Monitor the progress of the execution of each task that has to do with the event while at the event.
  • During the event serves as link between clients, dancers, parents, Groove Crew members, venue representatives and vendors.
  • Maintaining positive relationships with clients and venue.
  • Supervise set-up and breakdown of event, as well as assist and supervise Groove Crew.
  • Ensure that Groove Crew and Faculty adhere to the policies and procedures as outlined in the Groove Crew Handbook.
  • Ability to be an on-stage emceeing is a plus.
  • Always Maintaining Groove standards.
  • All other duties as assigned or designated.

Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Great interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess good leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have good organizational skills and coordinating abilities.
  • Must be creative and able to prioritize tasks daily and in the event of a challenge.
  • Must have full range of motion and dexterity, as well as the ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder.
  • Must have a clean driving record and able to safety operate company vehicles, as well as be accepted onto company auto insurance.
  • Previous warehouse experience preferred but not required.
  • Previous management experience preferred but not required.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must reside within driving distance of Ocean, NJ or be willing to relocate, and work regular business hours during a standard work week.
  • Must have a flexible schedule including nights, morning, weekends, weekdays and holidays.
  • Must be available to work and travel Thursday evening through Monday mornings during the months of January through May.
  • Must be available to work and travel for an extended period for national finals during the months of June and July for approximately 7 days per event.
  • Must be available to work and travel for conventions during the months of October, November, and December for approximately 3 days per event.
  • Must be available to work and travel for tradeshows and/or dance recitals. The months and days of travel are determined by the tradeshow and will be provided ahead of time.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent.
