What do Pre-Op/PACU Nurses do at Mayo Clinic?

• Focuses on the phases of patient care before and immediately following a surgical procedure, however they do not perform the actual surgery. This includes Pre-Op, Phase 1 PACU and Phase 2 PACU.
• Assess, quickly identify and resolve pre-operative issues.
• Starting and monitoring IVs, administering pre-operative medications and performing pre-operative instruction and explanation of patient's rights and procedures.
• In the PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit), the nurse will provide care for post-op patients recovering from general, regional, and local anesthesia.

• 11 Patient Care Techs and 8 Clinical Assistants
• Pre-Op ratio-1 RN : 3 patients
• Phase 1 PACU ratio-1 RN : 2 patients
• Phase 2 PACU ratio-1 RN : 3 patients
• Fast-paced unit utilizing critical care nursing concepts

We are currently hiring for the following shifts in Perianesthesia:
Days:
5:00am-5:30pm, Monday- Friday, 6 shifts per pay period, Days vary
6:00am-4:30pm, Monday- Friday
7:00am-7:30pm, Monday-Friday, 6 shifts per pay period, Days vary
8:30am-7:00pm, Monday- Friday
8:30am-9:00pm, Monday-Friday, 6 shifts per pay period, Days

Evenings:
10:30am-9:00pm, Monday-Friday

Swing:
10:30am-9:00pm, Monday- Friday, 5 shifts per pay period, Days vary
10:30am-11:00pm, Monday-Friday, 6 shifts per pay period, Days vary

Weekend schedule
Some shifts do require rotating call for weekends/holidays
