The Senior Accounting Associate will work in tandem with the Accounting Manager to assist with reports, perform preliminary analysis, perform special projects, and perform standard Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processes. This position will deliver high-quality service to internal and external customers, support various areas of the Accounting Department and company, and work with competing duties and deadlines, requiring an ability to prioritize and maintain professionalism. The Senior Accounting Associate will play an integral role on the accounting team, working through complex issues, transactions, and projects independently and collaboratively with cross-functional team members.

Essential Functions

  • Access computerized financial information to answer general questions as well as those related to specific accounts.
  • Analyze and interpret statistical data to preliminarily identify significant differences in relationships among sources of information.
  • Analyze data to determine answers to questions from customers or members of the public.
  • Analyze financial data to detect potential irregularities in billing trends, financial relationships, and regulatory compliance procedures.
  • Apply principles and processes for providing exceptional customer and personal services to internal and external customers. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Assist with general accounting duties for month-end close and various forecasts.
  • Assist with month-end reports.
  • Assist with updating internal control process documentation.
  • Calculate materials, overhead, and other costs based on estimates, quotations, and price lists.
  • Check figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes.
  • Check source data to verify completeness and accuracy.
  • Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records using journals, ledgers, or computers.
  • Code documents according to company procedures.
  • Communicate with customers, employees, and other individuals to answer questions, disseminate or explain information, take orders, and address complaints.
  • Compare computer printouts to manually maintained journals to determine if they match.
  • Compile budget data and documents based on estimated revenues, expenses, and previous budgets.
  • Compile reports, charts, or graphs that describe and interpret the findings of analyses.
  • Compile statistical, financial, accounting, or auditing reports and tables about such matters as cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and profits and losses.
  • Compile, copy, sort, and file records of office activities, business transactions, and other activities.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Conduct research, compile data, and prepare papers for consideration and presentation by executives, committees, and boards of directors.
  • Debit, credit, and total accounts on computer spreadsheets and databases using specialized accounting software.
  • File data and related information and maintain and update databases.
  • Maintain inventory records.
  • Monitor the status of loans and accounts to ensure that payments are up to date.
  • Operate 10-key calculators, typewriters, and copy machines to perform calculations and produce documents.
  • Operate telephones to answer, screen, or forward calls, provide information and take messages.
  • Perform financial calculations, such as amounts due, interest charges, balances, discounts, equity, and principal.
  • Prepare bank deposits by compiling data from cashiers, verifying and balancing receipts, and sending cash, checks, or other forms of payment to banks.
  • Prepare trial balances of books.
  • Process and prepare memos, correspondence, or other documents.
  • Produce preliminary written summary reports of financial research results.
  • Receive, record, and bank cash, checks, and vouchers.
  • Reconcile or note and report discrepancies found in records.
  • Reconcile records of bank transactions.
  • Work with adjacent departments on projects as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a year-round, full-time position. Days and hours are Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day. This position may require the ability and willingness to work extended hours, as occasionally needed, per day or week, including weekends and holidays, to meet business needs.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment with frequent contact and communication with others, including face-to-face, email, and phone discussions. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, emails, phones, photocopiers, scanners, adding machines, and filing cabinets daily.

Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary role. This would require lifting files, opening filing cabinets, bending or standing, and seeing details at close range.

Required Experience
1. Five years of Accounting work experience

2. Proficient knowledge of principles of accounting

3. Strong understanding of GAAP accounting and financial principles

4. Microsoft Suite knowledge with proficienct Excel skills

Preferred Education
1. Associates Degree or higher
2. Certification in Accounting, Finance, or a business-related program
