Northrop Grumman’s Tactical Space Systems Division is looking for a Senior Director (Director 2, Systems Engineering) to lead a Systems Engineering organization of qualified, diverse individuals. This position can be based out of either Dulles, VA or Gilbert, AZ.
As the Director for the Systems Engineering (SE) organization, you will report directly to the TSSD Vice President of Engineering. You will be responsible for the technical leadership, people leadership, and supervisory responsibilities for over 500 engineers. You will provide organizational vision and management of engineering and supporting personnel in the disciplines of Systems Engineering; Space Mission Architecture; Mission Systems Engineering; Mission Payload Systems Engineering; Space Vehicle Systems Engineering; Specialty Engineering; Modeling, Analyses and Simulation; Cyber Systems Engineering; and Space Vehicle Verification during integration, test and launch phases.
The ideal candidate will have experience across different aspects of Systems Engineering for the space domain including mission systems engineering, system architecture, SEIT leadership, proven record working development programs from design up through system integration and test, verification and validation experience. In addition to understanding the technical domains of Systems Engineering, this position requires experience in functionally managing large teams of personnel and alignment with leadership and company goals.
Essential functions and responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:
Provide technical and people leadership, strategic direction, and oversight of all major disciplines/functions within Systems Engineering.
Responsible for long range planning and all aspects of the Systems Engineering functional homeroom performance, including performance management.
Responsible for the continued critical skill/infrastructure build-up for TSSD Systems Engineering organization with skillsets needed for the entire project life cycle including SEIT Leadership for multi-discipline design, build and test responsibilities.
Provide ownership for the people, processes, and tools that support TSSD captures, program execution activities, including managing and integrating SE recruiting, employee development, employee engagement, skills development, NCTA efforts, staffing, process and product development.
Oversee program/project reviews, lead/participate in Independent Review Teams for key customer milestones such as SRR, SDR, PDR, CDR, etc., responsible for SE process improvement plans, proposal review, and commitment authority for SE scope of work.
Ensure application of sound Systems Engineering processes during capture, requirements review, preliminary design, detailed design, manufacturing, integration, test and qualification with tailoring as defined by Mission Class and customer contractual direction.
Responsible for the ISO/AS9100 Quality Management procedure, processes and metrics for all Engineering disciplines including participation in all internal and external audits, as well as Engineering corrective action boards.
Responsible for advising on strategic roadmaps for several existing and proposed product lines with guidance on their applicability to various space domains, capabilities, and risk posture.
Responsible for managing an annual indirect expense for labor and non-labor expenditures within assigned budget allocations.
Responsible for special assignments include proposal activities, independent technical reviews, program startup reviews, anomaly resolution and technical audits.
Ability to work well with a team and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) field from an accredited institution.
15 years of engineering and/or functional management experience.
Experience in leading Systems Engineering teams, and Space Systems.
Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Engineering or another STEM field.
INCOSE or other systems engineering certification or training.
Experience leading a large functional or program organization.
Experience implementing action plans utilizing metrics and/or root cause/corrective actions.
Familiarity with TSSD Engineering processes and portfolio.
This position reports to Dulles, VA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Gilbert, AZ, AZ, USA.
