Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

$139,600.00 - $230,300.00

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers is seeking a Sr. Dir, Agile Coach to function as a leader at a train level who will facilitate program level processes and execution, drive continuous development, manages risks and escalates impediments. This individual will guide multiple teams on Agile principles and practices across a large business area, demonstrate courage to challenge and advise teams and stakeholders, including senior leadership, enable teams to realize objectives and deliver on KPIs, assess and enhance Agile maturity of teams, and effectively integrate both internal and external learnings necessary to reinforce Agile growth at Travelers.

What Will You Do?

  • As a servant leader and change agent, coach individuals and teams across a large or complex business area to adopt Agile principles, values and practices while role modeling Travelers' leadership behaviors.
  • Work with teams organizing and driving program events and meetings between teams to collectively plan against short-term development cycles, sync at every stage, Demos, workshops, and Backlog Refinement.
  • Collaborate with the Product Manager to ensure that the program has a healthy Product Backlog.
  • Assist the area in communication and coordination with stakeholders and customers during feature-definition of the product and its delivery.
  • Enable effective communication among teams and coordinate planning quarterly (real-time).
  • Manage changes to the departments Program Increment plan and survey the impacts of those changes.
  • Drive cross-team collaboration in the department and lead resolution against internal and external departmental impediments and other planning, collaboration, and coordination concerns that arise.
  • Foster open communication between the teams and stakeholders to increase transparency and awareness towards progress and roadblocks.
  • Understand and be able to visualize and manage upstream/downstream dependencies.
  • Manage program-level coordination and effectively undertake tasks like:
    • Creation of timelines, setting milestones
    • Oversight into the development of reports and analysis of document program activity.
  • Advocate the adoption of Agile and industry standard best practices and processes.
  • Constantly refine and stay connected with emerging themes and discussions in the larger community that have adopted the Agile approach.
  • Support deploying industry standard practices tailored to the organization's needs. This would involve the standardization of procedures and documentation.
  • Create an environment that gives autonomy to the teams while they work on their projects and build trust among them for better collaboration.
  • The Sr. Agile Coach operates within defined parameters using a proven Agile Project Management Methodology with flexibility to merge different methodologies in accomplishing collective goals.
  • Use coaching techniques that increase collaboration, transparency and promote a culture of experimentation and innovation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 5 years of Agile experience preferred.
  • 4 years of experience as a coach or Release Train Engineer (RTE) experience preferred
  • 2 years of people leadership/management experience preferred.
  • 3 years of experience championing organizational change initiatives preferred.
  • 4 years of experience implementing Agile principles and practices in different cultures and environments preferred.
  • Agile Mindset: Embody Agile core values of openness, courage, respect, focus, and commitment. Infuse Agile principles, practices and methodologies to achieve team success.
  • Change Agent: Expert change leadership skills including the ability to create an inclusive environment, manage conflict and develop solutions to mitigate risk.
  • Coaching: Ability to utilize tailored coaching techniques to inspire individuals and teams to perform at a higher level.
  • Influence: Ability to influence behaviors of leaders at all levels and without traditional hierarchy.
  • Servant Leadership: Foster an environment where individuals thrive as empowered and equal members of a team.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate thoughts, concepts, practices effectively at all levels, adjusting as needed to a target audience.
  • Collaboration: Expertise working with others in a cross-functional multi-team environment.
  • Continuous Improvement: Demonstrate a commitment to continually improve, share learning with others and encourage team development.

What is a Must Have?

  • 3 years of Agile delivery experience required.
  • 5 years of business and/or technology related experience required.
  • 2 years of experience as a coach required.
  • Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of one or more business units (i.e. Claim, Risk Control, IT, Project Management, Production, Application Development, etc.) required.
