Job Description Summary:
In this position, the primary responsibilities will be: 1) to create the product development and life cycle roadmap, 2) collaborate for optimum sales and marketing strategies for market penetration, competitive differentiation, reseller partnerships, and revenue growth, 3) solidify operational capabilities and optimize capacity and efficiencies, 4) advise senior leadership on product line investment strategies, and 5) lead the P&L performance for this line-of-business, for both PolyPropylene and PolyEthylene plastic packaging solutions.
This leader should have a track record of accomplishments and demonstrated advanced skill levels across all of the competencies identified. This position will have P&L responsibilities; therefore, this leader will be expected to perform primary responsibilities working collaboratively across functions to deliver results that help MDI to continue to advance our Mission and growth strategies.
Strong technical, business, sales, marketing, and product line management expertise in a manufacturing environment is essential.

**
*Essential Functions:*

  • Develop a vision for how the product line will evolve over time, and the capital and organizational investments and strategies needed to gain aggressive market momentum.
  • Be the Subject Matter Expert, and primary internal point-of-contact, for the PolyPropylene and PolyEthylene Plastics line-of-business.
  • Develop, analyze, and share key business, financial, market, and customer satisfaction metrics for your product areas. Own the P&L goals and deliverables for the product line. Successfully overcome challenges to deliver optimum growth, financial, and employment performance.
  • Possess/develop a deep understanding of the market, competition, customer needs and sales strategies.
  • Have/develop a deep understanding of the polypropylene and polyethylene operations, such that it can help inform selling, marketing, and organizational strategies, and implications for best utilizing machine & resource capacity, and enhanced operational capabilities and efficiencies.
  • Support sales, customer service, marketing and other MDI resources with product-related training, education, and communications; and, be a resource to help provide training for MDI resellers.
  • Help develop strategic pricing methodologies & major RFPs, in collaboration with sales team to ensure we are best positioning MDI for “wins” in the marketplace.
  • Ensure that we have solid sales, marketing, and operational plans that best position MDI for aggressive growth, meeting/exceeding strategy goals.
  • Ensure products meet business and customer needs and expectations within acceptable time frames, in a cost-competitive manner, while also considering working capital, inventory, and resource requirements.
  • In collaboration with operations and sales, identify product designs, features, manufacturing processes, testing, and capabilities necessary to support market opportunities.
  • Present product line strategies, financials, competitive landscape, and operational capabilities to internal and external audiences, up to C-Level and board of directors.

*Qualifications:*

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Manufacturing, and combination of both technical and business acumen.
  • 5-10 years of experience in the role of product manager and/or business line leader/manager with P&L responsibilities in a new and growing product area.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing B2B environment.
  • Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as strong influence and persuasion skills.
  • Demonstrates success defining, launching, and growing successful products.
  • Data-driven approach with strong analytical and cross-group collaboration skills to bring the organization to consensus on decisions on both short and long-term product plans.
  • Ability to anticipate, conceptualize, and operationalize market and customer needs.
  • Acumen and proven experience demonstrating strong operational, financial, sales, and marketing savvy to successfully lead and drive aggressive line-of-business growth.

*Environment and Physical Demands:*

  • A traditional work week (M-F) with MDI core hours. Work during non-traditional hours is periodically required.
  • Basic vision required.
  • Works in a typical office setting which includes;
  • Continuously sit, use of computer monitor, mouse, and keyboard, standard telephone, hearing and talking.
  • Occasionally lift, reach, rotate hands, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Occasionally works in a typical factory environment-including high noise levels, moving machinery, conveyors, dust, and chemicals.

*Other:*

  • Willingness to travel ~25% between MDI Minnesota facilities, to tradeshows, and for customer/reseller meetings with the sales team as needed for this strategic role. Valid DL is a requirement.
