  • Additionally, the lifespan compensation range of this position is: $20.67-$31.25

Under the general direction of the TBS Program Manager, the TBS Behavioral Specialist provides one-to-one support and interventions to assist at risk children to develop skills and avoid behaviors which could result in loss of placement or return to an RCL 12 or above residential setting or psychiatric hospital. The TBS Behavioral Specialist is an active member of the treatment team and is responsible for collaborating with team members including therapists, other coaches and TBS supervisors

  • Works in coordination with the child therapist, supervisor, family, child (when appropriate), county workers, etc. in the development of a comprehensive treatment plan.
  • Implements specific interventions as delineated in the child’s treatment plan that address the child’s mental health goals.
  • Maintains a close and supportive relationship with the child’s family, educational personnel, program staff and any others who may be involved with the child. Direct treatment and educating parents and other caretakers in the implementation of appropriate therapeutic interventions that support the TBS service plan and goals.
  • Intervenes with child’s behavior management as needed and directed by the supervisor.
  • Plans and implements individual and group activities that encourage the child’s social and emotional growth.
  • Develops a working knowledge of functional behavioral analysis and assessment, behavioral modification techniques, crisis intervention, and other techniques as required when working with children with behavioral challenges.
  • Manages hours worked and documents times in daily progress notes and documents all work in accordance with Department of Mental Health and Children’s Bureau Guidelines. Completed progress notes are turned in to the Program Supervisor within 24 hours from date of service.
  • Attends treatment planning meetings, progress reviews, clinical staff meetings, in-service trainings and all other trainings and meetings as required by supervisor.
  • Actively participates and helps to direct the development and implementation of the TBS service plan.
  • Performs case management and responds to crisis situations as required.
  • As a mandated reporter, must follow child abuse reporting guidelines and report all suspicions of child abuse and/or neglect.

What you will need to bring with you:

  • Must possess a B.A., or B.S. and four years of experience in a mental health setting. Up to two years of graduate professional education may be substituted for the experience on a year for year basis. Up to two years of post associate arts clinical experience may be substituted for the required educational experience (as defined in Title 9) in addition to the requirement of four years experience in a mental health setting. Prior program/classroom experience with S.E.D children may be able to substitute such experience for educational requirement on a case by case basis.
  • Must possess a valid CA driver’s license and have access to a car.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings, split shifts and weekends, as required.
  • Must be knowledgeable about community resources and other support systems for child and family.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Bilingual/Spanish language preferred.
