Purpose:
Reporting to the Dean of SHU’s Davis and Henley College of Nursing (DHCON) and the Chief Academic Officer of Nuvance Health, the Chair for Nursing Practice, Education, Research, and Innovation is charged with working collaborating with both Nuvance and SHU stakeholders to help further the missions of both the DHCON and Nuvance Nursing. The chair will help develop and implement mutually beneficial programs and initiatives, particularly with respect to nursing practice, education, research, and innovation. The chair will be accountable to both organizations, SHU’s DHCON and to Nuvance. Initial endowed funds have been identified for Nursing Practice and Research programs, and additional funds may be pursued based on proposal of additional programs or projects.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Develops a clearly articulated vision for nursing research and innovation.
2. Develops and oversees a process to operationalize the stated vision.
3. Recommends and facilitates the development of nursing governance that oversees evidence-based nursing practice across the system.
4.
Leads the development of systems and processes to create a culture that embraces evidence-based nursing practice and leads to excellence in nurse-sensitive patient care outcomes.
5. Develops, implements, and oversees an infrastructure to support nursing research, including translation of nursing research into practice.
6. Enables pathways for nursing education and advancement that both attracts and retains nurses and creates vertical and horizontal growth opportunities within the profession.
7. Expands access to nursing education such that reliable candidate pipelines are cultivated.
8. Develops approaches to support the mental-health of nurses, including efforts to reduce moral distress and burn-out.
9. Supports and leads efforts to create innovative models for nursing practice.
10. Serves as an influencer for national policies related to contemporary nursing practice.
11. Engages in formal and informal partnerships with community care, public health, education, and other organizations to forge opportunities to provide nursing practice to enhance the health of the communities we serve.
12. Assemble a yearly meeting of representatives from both SHU and Nuvance to discuss the work of the endowed chair and set future goals.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
o Bachelors or Masters Degree required (one of which must be in Nursing) o Doctorate or PHD in Nursing Practice/Science requires 0 10 years of nursing experience required
o 5 years of leadership experience required
o Track record of applicable experience with favorable outcomes required
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:
· Advanced Computer and Presentation Skills
· Critical thinking skills
· Prefer experience in a clinical setting
· Knowledge in NY and/or CT DOH nursing practice requirements
License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:
o Active Registered Nurse License required (CT &/or NY State)
