Boswell Pharmacy Services, LLC (BPS) was founded in 1995 and has been providing correctional pharmacy services for over 25 years. BPS works with multiple correctional health care providers and directly with correctional agencies and facilities to provide and manage correctional pharmacy operations. In that role, BPS provides pharmacy services to state and county correctional facilities, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE), and the U.S. Marshals Service throughout the United States. BPS currently has contracts that serve approximately 80,000 prison inmates including, among others, various statewide correctional systems. Locally, BPS is one of the largest employers in Somerset County.

BPS is currently seeking an experienced compliance professional to serve as Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) in a cross-functional role with respect to pharmacy and/or manufacturer registrations. It is also possible this compliance professional could serve in a similar capacity with retail pharmacy businesses under common ownership/control pursuant to joint employment arrangements with BPS. The responsibilities of the CCO will include the following:

  • Primary compliance authority with reporting to senior management
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant federal and state laws and regulations, including but not limited to: The Controlled Substances Act and regulations thereunder (including but not limited to DEA regulations), Food & Drug Administration laws and regulations, and Relevant state pharmacy laws and regulations
  • Ensuring compliance with best practices approach for DEA Manufacturer and Pharmacy registrations, including physical security standards and human controls to mitigate risk of diversion
  • Creating, updating, maintaining, and ensuring compliance with all BPS policies and procedures, including but not limited to: Regulatory policies, Security policies, Ethics and Code of Conduct policies, and Maintenance of Compliance Hotline
  • Developing and leading training to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures
  • Developing, implementing, and updating compliance reporting mechanisms for use throughout the business
  • Overseeing adequate record maintenance and processes are in place to document compliance efforts
  • Providing guidance, collaboration and support to the implementation process for key compliance strategies, initiatives, and action plans

The CCO will serve as an active part of senior leadership and will be the primary compliance authority and advisor to the organization. Reporting directly to senior management, the CCO will serve as a strategic business partner dedicated to managing the compliance function for the business, as well as reducing BPS’ potential regulatory risk exposure. The CCO will play a critical role in proactively developing and optimizing relationships throughout the organization and continuing to maintain a culture that actively seeks compliance input to further optimize compliance in day-to-day operations. This position will serve as a role model for ethical management behavior and promote an awareness and understanding of positive ethical principles and compliance with federal and state laws in all areas of the organization.

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree. Additional certifications or degrees, such as a pharmacy degree, juris doctorate, and/or compliance certification(s) (i.e., CRCM, CCEP, CPCO) are preferred. In addition, candidates should have an outstanding record of achievement with at least 5 years of experience preferred, including prior compliance experience in a pharmacy or similarly regulated setting, prior management experience, and/or prior experience with a state or federal government regulatory agency.

Remote work is possible but this position will require at least 3 days per week on-site at BPS.

Some local travel may also be required to satisfy joint employment obligations.
