12-month positon, 8 hours/day

JOB SUMMARY: Unionville-Chadds Ford seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative individual who will provide overall support to district communications, public relations, media relations, marketing, print and digital publications, and social platforms. This position assists the Director of Communications and Community Relations with a variety of deliverables as assigned in promoting the goals of the Communications Department and the vision and mission of the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District. This position requires discretion, initiative, and sound judgment, as well as excellent technical knowledge and skills and the ability to provide a wide range of communication tasks.


QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skills, and/or ability necessary.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Marketing or Journalism preferred.
  • Experience in public relations, corporate communications/marketing, and/or news/journalism preferred.
  • Knowledge of and/or technical experience in English, journalism, public relations, photography, video and graphic design/desktop publishing preferred.
  • Experience with website content management systems and social media content management preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to interact with administrators, teachers, parents, Board members, support staff, colleagues, and outside professional contacts.
  • Familiarity in the use of technology for individual and system management, communication, research, video production, and social media content management.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements.

SKILLS

  • Excellent understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc.).
  • Experience with design software (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), photography, and videography (iMovie, etc.).
  • An understanding of traditional media relations as well as digital media strategies.
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. Including alternative ways to inform the public and share content via written, oral, and visual media.
  • Excellent grammatical and language skills. Ability to write and proofread written communications, including news releases, web content and social posts.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral, including excellent editing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Superior organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills; ability to prioritize work and deliver organized projects on time.
  • Reliability to handle confidential information.
  • Confidence, poise, tactfulness, positive attitude, and flexibility.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Solid understanding of the Internet, copywriting, customer service and Internet technologies.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office and Google cloud-based technology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Employee must have the ability to perform the following essential functions on a timely basis with or without reasonable accommodations.


  • Assist the Director of Communications and Community Relations with the preparation of communication deliverables and the management of various communication tools; including print, video, social media and online/digital platforms.
  • Assist in maintaining web content and executing social media strategies.
  • Assist with media relations and media placement tracking.
  • Facilitate effective internal communications.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations and reports.
  • Create engaging social media content on a regular basis.
  • Complete graphic design assignments as needed including district newsletter.
  • Support special programs, community partnerships, the Wall of Honor program, district events, and internal and external groups affiliated with the district.
  • Support event coordinating efforts and event execution.
  • Perform general office duties, i.e., order supplies, maintain database systems and media lists, maintain calendars and appointments coordinate meeting set-ups, and perform essential administrative work.
  • Regular and consistent attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WORK SCHEDULE: Eight (8) hours per day, 260 days per year - 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with occasional attendance at evening events.
