Cornerstone Coatings is a specialty subcontractor in the Denver Metro that performs commercial and industrial painting and coatings services. Cornerstone is privately owned and has been in the painting and coatings business in the Denver Metro for over 25 years. We are currently searching for a Controller. This is a leadership position, and this person will report directly to the President of the company. They will be responsible for the supervision of an accounting staff of 1-2 as well as oversee the entirety of the company’s financial reporting. They will be responsible for supervising the A-Z accounting processes and procedures including project accounting, accounts payable, general ledger, accounts receivable and payroll. The person in this role will participate in day-to-day interface with all levels of Cornerstone staff and leadership.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the A-Z financial and accounting operations of the company following GAAP on percent of completion accounting method
• Direct contact with general contractors and subcontractors in relation to contract billings, insurance requirements, waivers and other items as needed
• Manage the company’s job costing and WIP schedule
• Assist with project set-up, administration, and maintenance
• Prepare all monthly financial reports.
• Establish and maintain systems and controls which ensure the integrity of the accounting and financial management systems.
• Manage the company monthly billing process
• Ensure compliance with monthly, quarterly, and annual filings of sales, use, OPT, and payroll tax forms
• Manage company cash flow and cash flow forecasts
• Ensuring all company accounts are accurately reconciled
• Maintain and update company fixed asset records
• Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices
• Communicate routinely with Project Managers on a variety of job-related topics including billings, percent complete, budgets and costs
• Supervise accounts payable and payroll staff and functions.
• Responsible for facilitating annual reviewed financial statements with outside CPA firm
• Responsible for facilitating annual workers comp and general liability audits with outside insurance company
• Assist in administering company 401k plan
• Assist with general contractor prequalification process

Job Skills & Qualifications:

Skills Required:

• Proven experience as a Controller
• Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP and percent of complete method of accounting
• Experienced with WIP reports and job costing
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel) and finance software
• Strong Attention to Detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Organizational and leadership skills

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
• 5 years or more of related experience as controller, assistant controller, accounting manager or audit manager in public accounting
• Construction industry experience required
• Certified Public Accountant designation preferred
