Position Summary:
The Adelson School seeks a full-time Lower School Art teacher starting in August of 2023. Reporting to the Lower School Principal, the Lower School Art Teacher facilitates growth and success in art education through the implementation of the art curriculum. The Lower School Art Teacher meets the needs of all learners and creates a warm, welcoming classroom environment where all students feel safe taking risks. The Lower School Art Teacher creates positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration, and clearly communicates regarding progress, strengths, goals, and expectations.
Requirements:
● Plan and implement high quality and developmentally appropriate art instruction in grades junior kindergarten through 5th grade.
● Teach the 5th-grade arts collective, which includes teaching about set design, working backstage on a production, and facilitating the design and creation of props and sets for the Hanukkah play.
● Plan and facilitate cross-curricular art projects with grade-level teams.
● Collaborate with the Judaics department to create projects for holidays, including but not limited to Rosh Hashanah, Hanukkah, and Passover.
● Source art supplies for projects and lessons and maintain art supplies.
● Have strong classroom management skills.
● Exhibit a strong understanding of the developmental and learning needs of Lower School students while fostering a love of learning, independence, and personal responsibility.
● Demonstrate the ability to work well with a range of learning styles.
● Actively engage students in the learning process.
● Create a warm, nurturing classroom community in which students feel known, seen, and valued.
● Establish positive, collaborative relationships with faculty members.
● Establish positive relationships with parents and effectively communicate regarding growth and goals, and social, emotional, and behavioral challenges and progress.
● Reflect on teaching practice, seek professional development, and remain open to constructive feedback.
● Has the ability to integrate technology in meaningful ways, focusing on creation over consumption.
● Demonstrate understanding of 21st century skills.
● Exhibit organizational skills and creativity.
● Is a collaborator, honest, and dependable.
● Demonstrate a strong work ethic.
● Participate in specialist meetings and staff development meetings.
● Collaborate with curriculum coordinator, school counselors, and student support staff to create optimal learning environments and experiences for all students.
● Other school-related duties, including but not limited to car line, lunch supervision, and updating bulletin boards.
Education and Experience:
● Bachelor’s degree in art education, or closely related field. Master’s degree preferred.
● A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in an elementary school setting.
● Nevada teacher certification preferred.
● Experience with or knowledge of Jewish culture, traditions, and values preferred.
Physical Requirements:
● Prolonged periods of sitting.
● Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
● At times may be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
