Job Overview

The general store serves a customer base comprised of local residents and tourists, many of whom are guests at the Resort, which also offers a marina, golf course and campground. The general store experiences its highest visitor traffic in the peak summer and fall months. The Manager will be responsible for the operation of the general store and deli counter and oversee a staff of store clerks.

Job Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and supervise store clerks and ensure full compliance to Resort operating controls, SOP's, policies, procedures, and service standards, and including specific food-related handling, preparation and cleaning for the deli counter.
  • Schedule and assign store clerks to cover shifts and stations (register, deli, etc.), and perform clerk duties as needed when the adequate number of staff are not available to properly service the daily volume of business.
  • Knowledge and management of point-of-sale system.
  • Greet customers, respond to requests for information about the merchandise and the general store area.
  • Prepare store and store's books for seasonal inventory.
  • Receive merchandise, check invoice for proper amount and correct price; submit to Accounting.
  • Determine shelf displays for sales, holidays or regular displays.
  • Perform or delegate appropriately the stocking of shelves, coolers, freezers and display cases; removal of dented and damaged merchandise from the shelves; proper storage of food supplies for the deli.
  • Perform or delegate appropriately the cleaning of floors, display cases, shelves, coolers and freezers.
  • Inspect and evaluate physical condition of General Store and outside common areas to ensure cleanliness standards are up to professional expectations.
  • Work closely with other Resort departments to coordinate hospitality efforts to ensure service standards are favorable.
  • Other duties as assigned, which could be directly related to or unrelated to the original position.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of retail store experience
  • 1 year of supervisory experience
  • Superior communication skills (verbal and written), strong listening skills and excellent quantitative skills.
  • Exude a positive attitude and foster collaboration among team members.
  • Take initiative by identifying opportunities for improvement and coaching others to contribute to a culture of integrity and service.
  • Demonstrated aptitude with Excel and/or other program used for basic bookkeeping.
  • Ability to pass a Vermont Food Handlers class.
