Information Technology Support Specialist

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To: Director of Information Technology

ROLE SUMMARY

The Information Technology Support Specialist will assist in the coordination and management of the Borough’s computer network, ensuring availability and reliability of servers, network, and end user devices. The Support
Specialist will assist in the installation, modification, configuration, and troubleshooting of servers, computers, and software. The Support Specialist will also assist in making repairs to server, network equipment, disk storage, and end user computing devices such as PC desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. The Support Specialist, under direction from the Director of Information Technology, will provide technical assistance and training to Borough users.

This position will support the technology needs for the entire Boro, which includes the Administrative Offices, Public Works, Tax Office, Police, EMS, Fire Department and Community Center. This position will report directly to the Director of Information Technology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, & KEY MEASURES

  • Setup personal computer hardware and peripherals: install software on personal computers and take appropriate action to correct problems.
  • Setup new mobile devices and transfer data between old and new during deployment.
  • When malfunctions occur on computer systems or on the network, identify the problem and implement an appropriate course of action including correcting the problem, or contacting the Information

Technology Director.

  • Troubleshoot ethernet wiring and occasional installation of new ethernet for network connections.
  • Troubleshoot camera related issues (including facility cameras and police in-car cameras).
  • Respond to help desk tickets in a timely manner and prioritize tickets appropriately.
  • Make changes (additions, modifications, deletions) to building access as needed in the Boro’s Access

Control system.

  • Make content updates as needed on the Boro’s website or social networks.
  • Troubleshoot IP Telephone System when issues occur.
  • Provide support for Microsoft products such as Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive, Teams, etc.)
  • Assist users in a timely manner by responding to questions regarding computer hardware and software.
  • Assist with live broadcasting on the Boro’s Public Access Channel, YouTube and Facebook for Council

Meetings, Planning Commission Meetings and other meetings/events that are broadcasted.

  • Provide support and assistance where needed for the Boro’s rental reservation system and ensure rental spaces are prepared for any technology needs specified in the request.
  • Assist other departments as necessary with projects that have a technology component.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE)

  • Associates Degree or higher in IT field with 1-3 years of experience.
  • Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer hardware and software.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office 365 suite of applications.
  • Working knowledge of Windows Desktop (10 and 11) and Server Operating Systems (Windows Server2012 R2 and newer).
  • Ability to upgrade a variety of operating systems (Windows, iOS, etc.) while ensuring application compatibility.
  • Working knowledge of Apple iOS (iPhone and iPad)
  • Working knowledge of computer networking, including TCP/IP Protocols, DNS, DHCP, Distributed File

Systems, VLANs.

  • Basic knowledge of firewalls.
  • Basic knowledge of OS deployment technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft PowerShell.
  • Basic knowledge of Virtualization technologies such as VMWare.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES TYPICAL OF THIS POSITION

  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Knowledge of routine office procedures.
  • Ability to use office equipment, including computer, fax, printers, calculator, and copier.
  • Knowledge of basic computer procedures and principles.
  • Ability to do basic repairs and cleaning of computers and equipment.
  • Ability to perform input and retrieval functions on a computer and to efficiently utilize databases, spreadsheets, and word processing systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all departmental communications, documents, correspondence, and computer databases.
  • Self-motivated, being able to work on one’s own, to plan and organize personal work schedule, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain a working relationship with other departments, fellow employees, outside agencies, government officials, and the public.
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation.
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment up to 50lbs and perform other duties related to installation and support of hardware, to include, but not limited to climbing ladders and traversing stairs.
  • Ability to work evenings or weekends on occasion.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of Information.
  • Ability to obtain CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Systems) certification and pass a background check.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The computer systems in some departments operate 24/7/365 due to the nature of operations. To provide these services, the Information Technology Support Specialist may be required to work night or day shifts as well as weekends and holidays to ensure continuity of systems.

Starting Salary Range: $50,000 - $57,000
