Job Description :

Summary: Under the day-to-day direction of the Front Office Supervisor, and working with the physician, Medical Assistant provides assistance to the Physician and care to patients including escorting patients to exam rooms, obtaining and recording vitals and patient history, clerical duties, EMR data entry and handling telephone calls and scheduling appointments. The Medical Assistant requires a positive approach, ability to multi-task, flexibility and a keen understanding of policies and procedures.


  • Directed by the Front Office Supervisor, performs Medical Assistant procedures under the supervision of a Physician and gives instructions to patients as ordered by a Physician.
  • Greets patients professionally and politely, escorts patients to exam rooms and interviews patients.
  • Measures patient vitals including weight, blood pressure, pulse and temperature.
  • Reconciles patient medication.
  • Documents all information in patient's chart.
  • Input New Patient Forms in EMR
  • Processes tasks and or messages in EMR
  • May obtain preauthorizations, when necessary.
  • Ensures all related reports, labs and information are filed in patient’s chart prior to the patient’s appointment.
  • Keeps exam rooms stocked with medical supplies.
  • Abides by the policies, procedures, guidelines, rules, testing, security, administration and confidentiality of the Patients and Practice under the guidelines of OSHA and HIPAA Laws and safeguards.
  • Maintains clean, orderly and organized workstations and exam room work areas.
  • Schedules appointments and resolves patient issues over the phone or in person
  • Collects patient copays and payments over the phone or in-person
  • Reliable and flexible, keeping absences and tardiness to a minimum, acceptable standard.
  • Attend all staff meetings, training/testing
  • Resolves problems either independently or by knowing when appropriate to seek out another resource.
  • May log into Navinet and ancillary portals to obtain medical information and or reports on patients.
  • Performs specialized tasks, projects as requested by Physicians and or Care Center Management, accurately in a timely fashion.
  • Displays consistent positive and polite approach towards patients, customers, vendors, management and co-workers.
  • May work out of other local offices, as directed.
  • Can work varying or longer schedules, if Practice needs require.
  • Cross trains with other office positions and provides coverage for other positions as needed or directed.
  • Files booking sheets for endoscopy procedures when necessary or directed by the care center.
  • Sends letters to referring physicians on patient progress and findings when directed by the care center.
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Computer skills: data entry, knowledge of EMR, or ability to be trained.
  • Must be able to drive or have transportation to work
  • Demonstrates strong time management skills and organizational skills.
  • Must have an understanding of Prior Authorizations and Eligibility and Benefits
  • Must be able to exercise discretion, diplomacy and tact in patient and staff interaction.
  • Must consistently display patience, courteousness and respect.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA Laws and safeguards, or the ability to be trained in HIPAA and OSHA, and be able to follow these guidelines at all times
  • Ability to learn, understand and perform Medical Assistant procedures under the supervision of physician


Education and Experience Required
: Certified Medical Assistant Certificate. A minimum of 3 years of prior Medical office experience

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional medical office environment. This role may routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Dress Attire Required: Determined by Care Center

Days/Hours: Schedule determined by the needs of the Care Center.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

This position requires the ability occasionally to lift office and medical products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

This position may require providing light physical assistance to a patient while escorting him or her around the office.

This position may expose worker to substances commonly found in medical offices resulting from test procedures, waste and similar.
