Job Information

The Dimitroff Laboratory within the Translational Glycobiology Institute (TGIF) at FIU is seeking a full-time, non-tenure, Postdoctoral Associate position. The Dimitroff Laboratory is located within the TGIF, which is a one-of-its-kind glycoscience research facility housed with the necessary expertise, equipment, and shared resources to conduct innovative studies on the glycobiological factors causing human disease.

The Postdoctoral Associate will investigate how cancer cell glycans and related glycan-binding lectins impact growth and metastasis. There will also be a focus on how malignant B-lymphocyte glycans/lectins regulate their fate and function. The selected candidate will be tasked to perform experimentation using methods, such as IF/IHC, flow cytometry/sterile cell sorting, RT-qPCR, SDS-PAGE/Western blotting, lectin-affinity chromatography, and ex vivo cell isolation/culturing. The Postdoctoral Associate will perform experimentation using in vivo methods, such as human tumor xenograft growth and metastasis assays, and syngeneic murine tumor growth/metastasis assays. These assays are highlighted by the availability of a state-of-the-art in vivo fluorescence/luciferase AmiHT Spectral Imager, a new NIKON fluorescence/light microscope with digital imaging software, a Thermo Scientific™ Orbitrap Eclipse™ Tribrid™ Mass Spectrometer and an EVOS M7000 Imaging System. It is expected that the selected individual will submit/discuss progress weekly and write abstracts/manuscripts, publish their work as a first author in high impact journals, and regularly present at national scientific meetings and TGIF meetings. The Laboratory is operationally designed to train high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, and Postdoctoral Associates are expected to advise and train students as a structured mentoring network. There is long-standing emphasis on seeking and training underrepresented minorities and providing equal opportunities for women in science.
