A fulltime position postdoctoral fellow position is immediately available in Dr. Mary G. Garry’s Laboratory, in the Lillehei Heart Institute at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. This position is supported by multiple grants from the NIH, DOD, and AHA funding.
Research in my laboratory is focused on understanding the mechanisms of skeletal development, disease, regeneration, and physiology. In particular, we are interested in developing humanized chimeras for the purpose of engineering human organs in pig. For more details, please read our recent paper on Nature Biomed Eng (PMID: 33782573) Front Genet (PMID: 35957684), Am J Transplant (PMID: 36052557) and Nature Biotechnol (PMID: 32094659).
Many state-of-the-art techniques are employed, such as CRISPR/Cas9 Genome Editing, AAV, single cell RNA-Seq and ChIP Seq, confocal microscopy, somatic cell nuclear transfer, embryo transfer, large animal surgery, state of the art culture systems and imaging, hiPSC and macaque and porcine iPSCs, multicolor flow and sorting, and spatial transcriptomics.
Required Qualifications: PhD in developmental biology, molecular biology, or embryology.
Preferred qualifications: Background in muscle biology, myogenesis, and muscle physiology preferred.
We are seeking talented and self-motivated postdoctoral candidates with a good work ethic, and a strong interest in developmental and muscle biology.
Good writing and oral communication skills in English are required as well as the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
The Lillehei Heart Institute is home to outstanding scientists in the areas of muscle and cardiac regeneration and is a premier clinical and basic science research institute focusing on cardiovascular and skeletal muscle genomics, heart and skeletal muscle development, heart and skeletal muscle regeneration, stem cell therapies, personalized medicine, heart failure, vascular biology, dystrophic and volumetric muscle loss. In recent years we have established and recruited new research teams and have developed state-of-the-art research facilities that have resulted in a 250% increase in grant funding and large programmatic grants. This increase in staff and resources has allowed us to expand inter-disciplinary collaborations and synergies to promote new therapies.
