As data and ubiquitous machine learning underpin our digital transformation, reliability and stability are as important as speed and time to market and require innovative new approaches for our scalability and reliability needs.
Are you driven by building innovative software that enables data engineers to be more productive and identify performance bottlenecks and regressions through cutting-edge simulations or monitoring? Do you frequently use terms like chaos engineering, distributed automation, data fingerprinting, intelligent alerting, and instrumentation? Then Allstate Data & Intelligent Systems (D&IS) Team is the place for you. Key Responsibilities:
As the Principal Solution Engineer, you will be part of the Chaos Engineering, Performance, and Automation team for our data ecosystem to move us from a reactive to proactive stance on reliability engineering, better handle system failures and minimizing production issues. The primary focus of the team will be to safely degrade the state of product applications and infrastructure services to flash out potential production issues. The team will embark on building tooling, consulting, and embedding in partner teams to help with remediations, and evangelizing failure testing.
You will work closely with the development teams and will be expected to provide input into the architecture and scalability of various components. You will contribute to benchmarking of SLAs for KPIs, methodology, and analysis of tools to be adopted Allstate-wide, evangelize and support performance work throughout the engineering team. You will provide technical leadership to D&IS technology teams and upstream product teams. You will participate in creating and fulfilling Chaos Testing strategy that will improve applications and infrastructure reliability and scalability. You will be working on enabling engineering teams to adhere to Chaos Engineering standards and identifying areas of improvement. You will conduct R&D activities to identify technologies that fit our objectives and explore opportunities to apply AI/ML. You will implement series of Performance / Chaos test cycles. You will orchestrate monitoring and alert communications. You are expected to provide test reports, findings, and progress to engineering leadership.
So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

• 10+ years in a Performance Test engineering role
• Experience in Performance Test scripting, execution and analysis using Micro Focus LoadRunner or JMeter etc.
• Building Monitoring dashboards using common APM tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics or New Relic
• Ability to dissect product’s architecture, design, and test environments
• Experience in conducting POCs
• Defects submissions for discovered issues
• Test results reporting and presentation skills
• Knowledge in Chaos Testing and Fault Injection
• Strong experience testing UI and APIs
• Support development team with implementation of self-healing capabilities

The ideal candidate must also demonstrate competency in:

• Ability to work effectively across organizational and geographical boundaries, a collaborative and customer-oriented track record
• Micro Focus Load Runner, VUGen C/C++
• JMeter, Java
• APM tool(s) such as Datadog
• CI/CD tool(s) such as Jenkins
• SQL
• Performance Test execution in Cloud infrastructure
• Chaos Testing tools such as Chaos Monkey, Litmus, Gremlin, AWS FIS etc.
• API testing tools (SoapUI, Postman)

We also have some desirable criteria:

• Experience scripting in Groovy, Python for CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with NoSQL data stores and transport systems such as Spark, Storm, Cassandra, and Kafka is a plus

Compensation offered for this role is $102,500.00-$170,375.00 per year and is based on experience and qualifications.
