Primary Purpose of the Position

The Project Manager (PM) reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and is responsible for quality and on-time deliveries of projects at or above customer expectation and at our above budgeted profit.

Essential Functions / Duties

The Project Manager is continuously aware of all aspects of his jobs directed by engineering drawings and the production schedule. When unanticipated events threaten delivery dates or margins, the PM is responsible for timely coordination with the COO and coordination with customers.

The PM accountability begins with the award of a job and ends with full payment.

Specific Areas of Responsibility

  • Continuous customer satisfaction - communication, quality, timeliness, personal relationships.
  • Manage and update current and complete job files.
  • Accurate report weekly and monthly percentage of completion (POC) and job status reporting.
  • Issuing invoices and facilitates timely collections of payments, including change orders, as early as allowed by terms
  • Job profits
  • Pre-production - Awareness/participation in estimating, bidding, job set-up and kick-off meetings as requested by CTO and COO.
  • Job tracking - Weekly monitoring and monthly reporting of actual vs scheduled POC.
  • Issue resolution - serving as the first stop for solutions on job issues, escalating to the COO as appropriate.
  • Change orders - Coordinating change orders and ensuring timely follow-through.
  • Customer relations - Frequent communications, including visits, with customers to confirm alignment on job progress.
  • Files - Complete files of job progress, correspondence, quality, environmental, testing and required inspections.
  • New business - Seeking and passing leads for new work to Marketing.
  • Broader decisions - Participating as requested in key corporate decisions.
  • Reputation - Becoming an admired personality and a brand ambassador with employees, customers, suppliers, and all other outsiders

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Mechanical engineering degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience in heavy machining and fabrication shops with our types of equipment.
  • Solid personal reputation in our industry - with our prospective customers strongly preferred.
  • High math aptitude, computer skills and intellectual curiosity.
  • High detail and organizing orientation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme heat or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, and smell. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Pay: $61,202.00 - $85,000.00 per year
