TITLE: Activity Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the planning and implementation of activities for residents. Provides group and individual activities for the residents. Designs programs to encourage socialization, provide entertainment, relaxation, and fulfillment, and improve daily living skills. Duties will involve personal contact with a varying resident population and a varied work schedule that may include some weekends, evenings, and holidays. Tasks also will involve record keeping, attention to the environment, use of supplies and equipment, and maintenance of storage areas.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Group:

1. Coordinates schedules assuring area to be used for activity is available.

2. Set areas up as needed for the type of activity planned.

3. Remind staff of activities scheduled and residents who desire to participate.

4. Assist with transport of residents to the activity area.

5. Assist residents back to living areas at the conclusion of the activity.

8. Notify nursing of resident behaviors which may indicate medical problems.

9. Perform record keeping / documentation tasks.

10. Transport residents in facility bus to regularly scheduled activities and shopping trips.

1. Good verbal and written communication skills. Evidence of effective problem resolution skills. Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations. Resourcefulness

2. Interact appropriately and effectively in one-to-one activities according to the resident's strengths and limitations.

3. Be aware of individual cognitive, emotional, and psychosocial impairments.

4. Help maintain a pleasant and cheerful home environment.

6. Help with putting up, taking down, and storing seasonal decorations.

7. Help care for plants and animals.

8. Assist residents to display calendars, pictures, cards, or other mementos in their rooms.

9. Make a monthly activities Calendar and follow it. Place in a location visible to families.

10. Deliver and read mail as needed.

11. Participate in and promote staff participation in community-wide special activities such as dress-up days and special observances.

12. Attend mandatory in-service meetings.

13. Assist with other tasks as directed.

14. Ability to be organized and efficient.

18. Ability and willingness to act as a role model in conduct and appearance

21. Basic computer skills (Including – Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)

ASSIGNED TASKS:

1. Providing an activities program on a daily basis including evenings and weekends a. Provide a plan of activities appropriate to the needs of the residents that includes, but is not limited to:

i. Group social activities.

ii. Indoor and outdoor activities, which may include daily walks.

iii. Activities away from the facility.

iv. Spiritual programs and attendance at houses of worship.

v. Opportunity for resident involvement in planning & implementation of the activities program.

vi. Creative activities such as arts, crafts, music, drama, educational programs

vii. Exercise activities

viii. One to one attention

ix. Promotion of facility / community interaction

b. Prepare a monthly calendar of activities printed in large print and posted in a prominent location that is visible to residents and visitors.

c. Coordinate the activities program with other services in the facility.

d. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers when appropriate.

e. Encourage resident participation in activities and document outcomes.

2. Obtain necessary equipment and supplies. Accessible through organized storage. a. Participate with the administrator in developing a budget.

b. Foster family and community support of the activity program. Examples be through newsletters, calendars, networking, activities which bring family members or members of the community into the community, etc.

3. Contribute to facility efforts to maintain and /or improve quality of care through participation in the following:

a. Attend Care Plan meetings.

b. Attend Department Head Meetings.

c. Attend mandatory in-services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. A High School diploma / GED.

2. Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.

3. Ability to work in a team environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

4. Empathy for the challenges experienced by residents, families and team members and the problem-solving skill sets to support them.

5. Strong computer skills and ability to interact with a variety of electronic devices.

6. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

7. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

8. Must have a valid driver's license.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
