JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Kirk Consulting, a land use planning firm located on the California Central Coast, is seeking a full-time position for an Associate Planner. This is a mid-level position and will be responsible for managing and participating in complex land use entitlements, subdivisions, condition compliance and other applicable professional planning activities.

General Description of Responsibilities: As an Associate Planner, you will report to a direct Supervisor. Basic job duties this position must be able to perform:

  • Participates in and performs complex assignments in a wide variety of planning activities including land use, zoning, development and subdivisions;
  • Perform planning duties by reviewing complex land development applications; preparation of planning and building applications to be processed through City, County and State jurisdictions;
  • Analyzes and interprets data pertaining to planning, development, and zoning;
  • Communicate the research and development process, applicable regulations, identify, research and communicate issues, concerns and solutions with clients;
  • Research parcel history, zoning, planning, development, geological, and drainage history for consultations with new clients and potential development; and,
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidate must possess interpersonal skills to develop good working relationships with team members, clients, and City and County representatives. The ideal candidate has the ability to review plans, technical reports and applications for completeness and compliance with established State and local code, laws, and regulations. This position requires someone that is highly organized with the ability to manage multiple assignments, multi-task and problem solve on a daily basis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability: Proficient knowledge and understanding of the principles of City and County planning, including CEQA and the Subdivision Map Act; ability to collect, analyze and compile technical, statistical information pertaining to planning and zoning research; working knowledge in the use of computers and related software applications including but not limited to: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Illustrator, AutoCAD, and other graphics related programs. Must have the ability to read and interpret maps, aerial photos and legal descriptions as well as interpret regulations. Provide excellent customer service to clients, licensed professionals, and agency staff. Employee must have the ability to drive a vehicle.

Education and Qualifications: Minimum of BS/BA in Natural Resource Planning, Construction Management, City/Urban Planning or a closely related field and at least three (3) years of experience in a planning profession. A master’s degree in planning or a closely related field is preferred. A combination of both private and public sector experience is preferred, but not required.

Supervision: This position reports to a direct Supervisor.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is commensurate with education and experience and includes health insurance, vacation/sick time, paid holidays, and 401(k) profit sharing plan (eligible after one year).

The duties listed above are not intended to be all-inclusive. An employee may also perform other reasonable related business duties as assigned by the President. This position is considered non-exempt.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $5,258.00 - $6,493.00 per month
