Job Description: Bar Manager – Manager on Duty

Pay: $13--$17 Per Hour (depending on experience) plus Tips and Automatic Gratuities

If you love working in the Bar & Service industry but are tired of working till 2am this is the perfect job for you! Our events typically finish by Midnight and we close our bars by Midnight through out the year. The Bar Manager is the Manager on Duty (MOD) during their shifts on the floor. Our Core Serving and Bartending Staff is currently trained to bartend or serve tables. We currently have a few trained MODs that are all part-time staff members. The Bar Manager is a full-time position with paid benefits, thus will have the responsibility of managing all aspects of beverage services during their shifts. Typical shifts would be nights and weekends while we are currently closed on Sundays & Mondays until the golf course opens in the Spring. A successful candidate will be knowledgeable of food & beverage menus, beverage recipes, and beverage service techniques. A candidate must be extremely organized and be able to manage the logistics of multiple bar events simultaneously. A Successful candidate will be knowledgeable on proper table service technics, bar service, and overall guest hospitality. Additional responsibilities would include overall cleanliness, training, and team building methods.

Skills and Abilities

· Maintaining a working relationship with vendors

· Strong communication skills

· Ability to serve tables and bartend during slow times.

· Responsible for maintaining bar costs, ordering, and inventory.

· Two years previous bartending experience.

· Team management Experience

· Ability to help interview, hire, train new staff members.

· Handle customer complaints

· Provide Happy Hour, Weekly, and Seasonal Drink Specials

· Create employee schedules based on expected customer numbers

What is it like to Bartend at Spirit Hollow; you might ask?

Spirit Hollow has three different Bar Venues which are all unique from one and other in their own way. There are times that all three venues are operating at the same time. All three bar areas are surrounded by breathtaking views of the #1 Public Golf Course in Iowa for over 5 years running!

Descriptions of the three bar venues are:

1. The main Banquet Bar is in a separate building from the Clubhouse. This banquet bar is located at the GG Conn Pavilion and is used regularly though out the year for events that can accommodate up to 150 guests. Spirit Hollow performs several events a month throughout the entire facility. Some events are formal and require button up shirts and slacks, but in general we have a casual atmosphere and a casual dress code for our staff. Our banquets are all automatically given 18% gratuity.

2. The Claret Jug Bar and dining area seats 45 people and is utilized for many of our smaller events while regularly used by our lodging guests during the summer months and by our golfers who use our hotel rooms or cabins for lodging. We can accommodate 40 guests spending the night.

3. Lambo’s at the Shankopotomous Golf Academy (The Shank,) is Spirit Hollow’s newest addition. This bar and dining room area can accommodate up to 150 people. This bar location is considered our main bar and it is where the bartenders have most of their shifts. During the Golf season it is busy and during the winter we keep busy with our in-door golf leagues, events, and regular menu.
